Its plot is almost as complicated as its title.

In the spring of 2024, the anime Dead Dead Demon's Dededededestruction was released, based on the manga by Inio Asano, known for his dark works. The project was directed by Tomoyuki Kurokawa.

What Is Dead Dead Demon's Dededededestruction About?

The anime begins abruptly – with episode zero. More than eight years ago, the main character Nobuo Koyama lost consciousness, and since then his body has been subordinated to an alien invader.

A similar situation occurred in Parasyte, but here Koyama's personality was able to defeat the alien and regain control of his body. The man is introduced to the course of events by schoolgirls whom the alien has been watching all these years. On August 31, 2039, an alien spacecraft appeared over Tokyo Bay. Four years later, it exploded, almost completely destroying Tokyo.

The current apocalyptic world is usually called August 32. Nobuo goes to Tokyo to search for his daughter Kadode. She and her friends will be the focus of the story. But of the previous one, because the author will tell about the events five years before the "awakening" of Nobuo Koyama.

The Anime Has a Multi-Layered and Quite Confusing Structure

Half of the plot of the first episodes consists of flashbacks, which refer to the appearance of UFOs and the events of 2042. After losing her father, Kadode continues to live as an ordinary high school student, solving everyday problems of adolescence such as first love and exams.

The peaceful and leisurely narrative is often interrupted by reports of a war with aliens. A flying saucer has been hovering over Tokyo for three years, occasionally sending out shuttles for reconnaissance. The relative peacefulness of the aliens has the Japanese government and military in disarray.

Nevertheless, the development of a weapon capable of shooting down enemy ships begins. The war chronicle is more of a backdrop for the story about Japanese high school girls. Although the topic of ordinary life behind the scenes of war has been explored in other titles such as Attack on Titan and Fullmetal Alchemist, the setting feels fresh.

The anime has several storylines: schoolgirls, military, government, aliens. At first it shows the life of high school girls, then without warning it runs into the near future and talks about aliens, and a few minutes later it completely unleashes a huge two-part flashback on the viewer.

Along with the multiple storylines, stories from different times are layered on top of each other, forming a high and difficult to understand lasagna.

The Anime Has a Superb Animation

As for the animation, there is a fresh approach to drawing characters and animals, and detailed landscapes and locations will delight even fans of Makoto Shinkai.

The anime can be paused at any time to look at detailed mecha or panoramas of the metropolis. The opening also raises the bar on the extraordinary – it looks interesting and exotic.
