Fans Are Speculating About One Punch Man S3 Again After a Statement from Yusuke Murata

The anime was announced in 2022, and we still have no information.

Summary:

  • When Yusuke Murata announced he had established a new anime studio, fans started wondering if that studio was going to work on One Punch Man S3.
  • Murata says he isn’t involved, and the studio for S3 is not yet known.
  • Fans are still hyped for Murata’s anime projects.

One Punch Man Season 3 has been a point of debates in the community for a while now. Announced back in 2022, it was given a key visual that, up to this moment, was not followed up with any other news about the series.

Fans hoped Murata’s studio would make OPM S3

Yusuke Murata, the artist behind the manga (which is adapting ONE’s webcomic), has recently established his own anime studio. Naturally, this made fans curious.

After all, this would be a perfect studio choice for One Punch Man: Murata is already involved with the series, his art is incredible, and this would explain the absence of news. He has also teased being involved with an anime project, which only contributed to the rumors.

However, Murata’s recent statement might be somewhat disheartening for long-time fans of One Punch Man. As he explains in his post on X (formerly Twitter), he’s not actually involved with OPM S3. The teased anime project is something else.

No news currently

Currently, the studio for One Punch Man S3 remains unknown. After subpar animation of S2, fans don’t want the series to return to J.C.Staff, and some want Madhouse, who worked on S1, to be involved with the project again. There are currently no confirmations or denials for either of these options.

There have also been rumors that the anime is going to be made by MAPPA — but there’s no source for that statement. Fans really don’t want this, though: with the recent scandals involving their treatment of animators and the studio already being involved with multiple large-scale projects, animation quality might suffer if they take on more work.

In the case of One Punch Man, animation is one of the main selling points of the anime.

It’s not a bad thing

Despite Murata’s lack of involvement in the upcoming project, fans are still happy with him working on anime now — even if said anime isn’t One Punch Man. Murata is said to be one of the best manga artists, and fans are eagerly awaiting the anime project he mentioned.

Village Studio, established by Murata, doesn’t really seem to be similar to industry giants such as MAPPA and WIT. They haven’t made a single TV anime (and aren’t announced to be working on one yet), and while Murata working on One Punch Man anime would be a dream-like scenario, his studio probably doesn’t have enough resources for that.

That said, we are still hyped for Village’s projects.
