She’s getting more and more popular nowadays.
Frieren: Beyond Journey's End (Sousou no Frieren) definitely earned its place among the modern classics — and it hasn’t even finished airing. In part, that is due to how great its titular character is.
If you like Frieren’s voice, here are some other major roles her seiyuu, Atsumi Tanezaki, had in anime!
Vivy (Vivy: Fluorite Eye's Song)
Vivy is a very good original series from 2021. It manages to provide a thoughtful commentary on AI, while having an entertaining sci-fi plot and beautifully done music scenes.
The titular Vivy is the best character of the show, and Tanezaki voices Vivy both as herself and as Diva — two personalities who are very different from each other, which is another proof of her talent.
Anya Forger (Spy x Family)
Spy x Family is as different from Frieren: Beyond Journey's End as Anya is from Frieren herself. Despite that, the two series share the voice actress for these two very different characters.
Atsumi Tanezaki handles this role very well — Anya is mostly a comedic character, but she has her share of heartwarming moments.
Chise Hatori (The Ancient Magus' Bride)
Atsumi Tanezaki seems to have a knack for playing characters who focus on introspection and self-reflection. The Ancient Magus' Bride (Mahou tsukai no Yome) has a number of similarities to Frieren: Beyond Journey's End.
Namely, the magical feeling you get while watching the series comes to mind. Another common point is the main characters — who are more similar than it looks at first. Them being voiced by the same person definitely helps.
Mizore Yoroizuka (Liz and the Blue Bird)
Mizore made her first appearance in Sound! Euphonium (Hibike! Euphonium). However, her relationship with Nozomi definitely warranted a separate story about them. Liz and the Blue Bird (Liz to Aoi Tori) is a beautiful movie about these two that many consider to be even better than the original series.
As usual, Tanezaki is cast as an introverted girl here. This seems to be a recurring theme for her characters. Not that the viewers complain, of course.
Dai (Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai)
Dragon Quest is the series of games that is often said to be responsible for the spread of game elements in fantasy anime. While it had many adaptations, the most popular is the one from 2020 — which ran for a hundred episodes.
Atsumi Tanezaki plays the role of the protagonist, Dai. While it’s rare to hear her in a protagonist role in a shounen series, she actually plays it perfectly.
