The anime adaptation of the popular webtoon failed to live up to fans' expectations.
The spring anime season presented isekai fans with an adaptation of the popular webtoon The Beginning After the End. Only four episodes have been shown, and the series has already collected low scores and a wave of hate.
Let's find out why everyone is comparing the new isekai to Jobless Reincarnation and what is actually wrong with The Beginning After the End anime.
What Is The Beginning After the End About?
The main character was a strict ruler in his former life. King Grey lived in a modern and technologically advanced world where there was no magic, but there was Ki – a life force that allows you to strengthen the body and weapons.
The hero's life ended mysteriously, after which he found himself in the body of a newborn. Reborn in another world, little Arthur (as the former king is now called) decided to build up his strength from an early age.
There is no Ki here, but there is mana – a magical power that every hundredth person possesses. Luckily for the boy, his parents and himself are among them.
Is The Beginning After the End Another Isekai in the Spirit of Jobless Reincarnation?
If, after watching the first episode of the anime or the first chapters of the webtoon, you have a feeling of déjà vu and think that you imagined it, then no. The similarities to Jobless Reincarnation are obvious, but only at the beginning.
The main character is reborn, learns about the world and magic even before he can walk, reads books and shows the world his young genius – so far everything is without visible differences.
Then the boy is separated from his parents and searches for a way to them, which of course takes some years – and here everything comes together. And the main character of The Beginning After the End also finds his blonde elf, only her name is not Sylphy, but Tessia.
This is where the main similarities with Jobless Reincarnation end. In his personality, the main character of the new isekai is the complete opposite of Rudeus.
Arthur is brave, decisive, responsible and decent in his new life, whereas the former king was characterized by cruelty and cold-bloodedness. Finding a loving family has softened his character and given him new life values.
The Beginning After the End Is a Disappointment
The adaptation of the popular webtoon The Beginning After the End was a good idea, but the execution was very disappointing. The anime received a 5.4 out of 10 score from IMDb users for four episodes.
With such mediocre animation quality and sloppy storytelling, it is much more enjoyable to read the webtoon. Not only does the anime fail to live up to the expectations of webtoon fans, but it also alienates new viewers who were previously unfamiliar with the story.
There is little hope that future episodes will be of better quality and more dynamic. And you should definitely not expect cool action scenes like in Solo Leveling.
