We might get an anime announcement later this year, but don’t expect it to come out anytime soon.
Summary:
- Kagurabachi is a recent hit manga in Weekly Shounen Jump.
- It already has a huge following both in Japan and overseas.
- We are likely to get an adaptation, just not anytime soon.
If you’ve been paying attention to the manga community, then you have probably heard of Kagurabachi. It’s arguably one of the biggest Weekly Shounen Jump manga running right now that still doesn’t have an adaptation.
Following Chihiro Rokuhira, a son of a famous swordsman who wants to avenge his father’s death, it’s a fun action series that instantly got a following due to its premise and great art.
That said, the one thing fans have been asking for for a while now is an anime adaptation. All signs are pointing towards the fact that it might actually get one… eventually.
The manga is very popular
The manga has already been licensed by VIZ media — you can find it on the official app. It’s very popular in both Japan and the West. Just recently, VIZ has announced publishing the first volume physically as well. This brings up some speculations about a possible anime.
Some fans may also know that the manga has already been nominated for the “manga we want to see animated” poll by AnimeJapan. While that doesn’t necessarily mean anything — especially because the results aren’t out yet — it shows that Kagurabachi has enough followers to be noticed in polls like this.
Moreover, some of the previous winners have already been adapted into anime. These include such anime as Komi Can't Communicate and The Dangers in My Heart. While winning this poll doesn’t guarantee the manga actually getting an adaptation, there is some correlation between the two events.
We will probably get an anime — just not anytime soon
Considering that Kagurabachi is published in Shounen Jump — and has a huge fanbase already — it is very likely that it will be adapted into an anime one day. That anime will probably be huge too — perhaps not as huge as something like Jujutsu Kaisen, but definitely talked about enough to be remembered.
That said, we probably shouldn’t expect it anytime soon. The manga only has 20-something chapters at the moment, and that’s not even enough for one cour of anime.
We’ll have to wait for at least half a year for the manga to get enough content to be adapted (and still have chapters left for the future), and even then, anime production usually takes 2-3 years. It seems that there won’t be a Kagurabachi anime in the near future.
