The Dangers in My Heart ended on 15 September after eight and a half years. Four of those issues were in Weekly Shonen Champion. The rest were on a website that changed its name twice while the series was running.

Norio Sakurai finished The Dangers in My Heart on 15 September 2026 with a graduation ceremony, which is the only way that series was ever going to end. It began on 8 March 2018. That is eight years and six months, and Oricon's Japanese headline says so plainly — eight and a half years.

Several outlets rounded it to eight. Sakurai's own comment says "more than eight years," which is both accurate and the sort of thing that gets rounded down in translation.

The magazine it ran in is a three-link chain

Anything describing this as the end of a long Weekly Shonen Champion run is wrong by about eight years and four months.

  • March 2018 — starts in Weekly Shonen Champion, the print magazine, issue 15. It runs there for four issues.
  • April 2018 — moves to Champion Cross, Akita Shoten's web platform.
  • July 2018Champion Cross merges with Champion Tap! and the series continues on the combined site, Manga Cross.
  • 23 April 2024 — Akita Shoten relaunches Manga Cross and renames it Champion Cross again. The series finishes there.

Four print instalments, then eight years on a website that reverted to its original name six years later. The publisher's own announcement of the 2024 relaunch is the only clean record of that last step, and it is the one most English summaries stop short of.

It ended. It was not cut.

Sakurai's comment on the final chapter: thanks to everyone who supported the series, and relief at having brought more than eight years of serialization to a safe and healthy close. The final volume was flagged as final well in advance. There is no cancellation anywhere in this.

Worth stating because a series that ends on a graduation, at volume fourteen, with the leads' arc closed, still attracts the reflex reading that it was wrapped early.

The verifiable ledger

  • Start: Weekly Shonen Champion 2018 issue 15, on sale 8 March 2018.
  • End: 15 September 2026, on Champion Cross.
  • Final chapter: numbered 199, per one outlet. Only one source states the number; everyone else gives the date and stops. Safe form: "the final chapter, published 15 September."
  • Volumes: 14. The last one is not out yet — it arrives 6 November 2026, with a special edition bundling a graduation-album art booklet.
  • Circulation: more than 7 million copies through volume 13. That is copies in circulation, which is a printing figure, not a sales figure.

The anime is not finished either

  • Season 1: 12 episodes, spring 2023. Season 2: 13 episodes, winter 2024. Twenty-five total.
  • A compilation film opened on 13 February 2026 and drew around 170,000 admissions. It is a recap feature, not a third season, and not an episode.
  • Season 3 was confirmed on 14 March 2026, for broadcast in 2027. Shin-Ei Animation returns, with character design by Masato Katsumata, series composition by Juki Hanada and music by Kensuke Ushio. The director's name has been rendered inconsistently across sources and is best left out until the official site confirms it.

Loose ends

  • Chapter 199 is single-sourced.
  • The 8 March 2018 on-sale date is derived from the issue number rather than from a publisher page.
  • Episode counts come from two listings that agree with each other and disagree with one encyclopedia entry.

Eight and a half years of one school year, roughly

The series covers a stretch of middle school and high school that a real student would clear in a fraction of the time it took to draw. That is normal for the genre and it is also the reason the ending lands: readers who started in 2018 have aged nearly a decade watching two characters get from one term to a graduation.

The manga is finished on 15 September 2026. The final volume arrives in November. The anime returns in 2027. Nothing about that is an ending, except the part that is.
