The Kingdoms of Ruin Fans Making Theories About Who Was Actually Resurrected in Episode 4

Witches have been looking for Adonis to revive Chloe, but it looks like they resurrected someone else!

The Kingdoms of Ruin (Hametsu no Oukoku) spoilers ahead!

Summary

  • Adonis agrees to work with witches to revive Chloe without much enthusiasm because he does not trust them.
  • The witches carry out the ritual using Adonis’ memories to revive Chloe.
  • The resulting witch looks more like Doroka.
  • Doroka didn’t spend much time with Adonis, and it’s not clear how the ritual could have such results.

Adonis didn’t die in episode 3; a witch helped him by making a copy of his body and sending off the real Adonis to the witches’ settlement on the Moon. Adonis doesn't trust witches, mostly because of his own guess that witches ostracized Chloe for taking a human apprentice. On top of that, Doroka warns him about witches wanting to use Chloe. Overall, going into the ritual of reviving Chloe, Adonis was not very trusting.

The Ritual

Adonis was supposed to summon his thoughts and memories of Chloe to help her be reborn from the tree that gives life to witches. Supposedly, he did just that, but when we are shown the resulting witch, she looks nothing like Chloe. In fact, she looks very much like Doroka, the witch that helped Adonis get out of the prison.

Fan theories

Fans have been speculating on the possible explanations ever since the episode was out. Here are some of the possible explanations.

Old Witch, New Face

First, Adonis definitely didn’t have enough memories of Doroka to revive her. It is possible that the witch, in reality, is not Doroka but only wears her face for some reason. In other words, she could still be Chloe, just in a new guise.

Chloe Has This Under Control

On the other hand, Chloe herself might have sensed the fact that she was being resurrected to be used; after all, Adonis probably thought about it at least once during the ritual. In that case, Chloe herself decided not to be revived and let another witch be resurrected.

Memory Substitute

There is also the possibility that Adonis and the witch that had saved him had an agreement to revive Doroka instead of Chloe. It seems like the witch is really angry that Doroka died for Adonis, and Adonis does not want his beloved teacher to be used, so they could have exchanged memories, so that Adonis could revive Doroka.

The next episodes should help to solve this mystery, but guessing and discussing it with other fans is always interesting, too.
