The Quintessential Quintuplets Allegedly Receives Another Anime Project — Fans Are Perplexed

No, it’s not alternative endings for different girls.

Minor spoilers ahead!

Summary:

  • According to a leak on X (formerly Twitter), The Quintessential Quintuplets is getting another anime project.
  • It will be a honeymoon arc, written by the mangaka himself.
  • Fans wanted alternative endings for different characters.

According to a yet unconfirmed leak, The Quintessential Quintuplets (5-toubun no Hanayome) is going to receive yet another anime project. Apparently, this time, it will be a continuation of the series — which leaves the fans very puzzled, as this is something they never expected.

What Sequel? Isn’t The Story Over?

The main source of confusion comes from the fact that there is no way to properly continue The Quintessential Quintuplets — the anime fully adapts the manga. The series is over, and Fuutarou married one of the girls (we won’t spoil which one) — so what exactly is this sequel going to cover?

The Honeymoon Arc Is Rumored to Be Adapted

Well, according to the leaker, at least, the sequel project will cover the honeymoon of the married couple. This is actually going to be canon, as the story will be written by Negi Haruba, the mangaka of the original — but fans aren’t exactly thrilled.

While they’re always happy to see more of Quintuplets, fans are worried that the anime will go back to its roots as a harem series. This would be very distasteful, considering there’s already an obvious winner the protagonist is already married to.

Besides, no one really asked for this sequel — a honeymoon arc is cool on paper, but it is also skippable.

Fans Wanted Something Else Instead

What fans actually wanted from a potential new Quintuplets anime was an alternative ending. Of course, not everyone was happy about which girl was chosen, and they’d want an alternative universe version with a different ending.

That would satisfy more people and give more content without potentially jeopardizing the main ending (after all, the manga ending is the canon one).

After two seasons and a movie, The Quintessential Quintuplets has already received another anime. Called The Quintessential Quintuplets~, it simply adapts the chapters skipped by the main series (not unlike Horimiya: The Missing Piece). And it’s animated by Shaft, of all studios.

Assuming the leak is true, we still don’t know anything about this supposed new project. We don’t even know the format — although with that premise, it’s probably going to be an OVA or another set of specials. There’s also no information on when it’s coming out or which studio is making it.

Still, fans hope it’s real — and, if it’s successful enough, perhaps they can also get alternative endings for each girl. Others, though, think that’s highly unlikely — we haven’t seen anything quite like that.
