Get ready for a dangerous and thrilling adventure.
Magic Pockets and Microids recently announced a full-fledged game based on the space adventure franchise Space Adventure Cobra. Buichi Terasawa's manga was published from 1978 to 1984, with several anime adaptations released in the following years.
The project is called Space Adventure Cobra The Awakening – the developers promise to cover the first 12 episodes of the anime.
The release of Space Adventure Cobra The Awakening is expected in 2025. As the developers note, this will be the first adaptation of Cobra in video game format for modern platforms.
What Is Space Adventure Cobra About?
An ordinary office worker, Johnson gets up every day and goes to a hateful job. The action takes place in the distant future. But even a fantastic future can seem dull if you're stuck in a dead-end job. Yes, spaceships plow the vastness of the universe, but there is no room on board for "ordinary" people.
One day, Johnson decides to at least fantasize about a better life. In his controlled dreams, he sees himself as the captain of a spaceship and a carefree, happy hero who defeats monsters.
Only all this is not fiction, but the truth, and his real name is Cobra. He is a pirate and adventurer, the most dangerous and wanted man in the universe. The Galactic Police and the Pirate Guild are on his trail, and an absurdly high reward has been placed on his head.
Cobra Is a Work from a Renowned Mangaka
Cobra was a major professional debut for 22-year-old manga artist Buichi Terasawa, who had previously tried his hand at fantasy shojo manga.
It all started when Terasawa failed his college entrance exams and had nothing to do. Then he noticed that a girl was drawing manga for an amateur competition with a large prize fund. Terasawa took up the challenge and won right away.
A few years later, Cobra was published in Weekly Shonen Jump and became a brilliant example of entertaining fantasy.
Space Adventure Cobra Is a Perfect Adventure Fantasy
The TV series Space Adventure Cobra is an unusually light-hearted work and the perfect way to spend a day off. The series perfectly reproduces the romance of old comics about Buck Rogers or Flash Gordon.
The episodes are beautifully drawn, well-structured, dynamic and completely imbued with a screaming 80s aesthetic. The steady hand of Osamu Dezaki, one of the best directors in the history of the industry, is evident in every scene. All of his classic techniques – expressionistic lighting, split screens, camera angles, panoramic drives along multi-layered backdrops – are used to maximum effect.
