These series will help heal the wound left by the Netflix project.
Although Netflix's Devil May Cry received a 95% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, dedicated fans of the original game were left extremely disappointed. We have chosen four anime adaptations that have brought the game stories to the small screen with dignity.
1. Dragon's Dogma, 2020
Ethan is killed by a dragon, but comes back to life with a hole in his heart. On top of that, the dragon managed to do a much darker deed by killing Ethan's entire family, and now the man is driven by the desire for revenge.
Over the course of seven episodes, Ethan finds himself in a number of different adventures. Each episode is an independent short story and is tied to one of the deadly sins: for example, in Lust he must fight a succubus, and in the final episode Pride – a dragon.
2. Carmen Sandiego, 2019-2021
Four seasons of the animated series based on the educational and entertaining computer games of the same name from Broderbund.
Professional thief Carmen Sandiego uses her skills for good, traveling the world and thwarting heists at the greatest thieving school, V.I.L.E., where she once studied. The animated movie will delve into the main character's past and tell who she is and why she retrained as a thief and became a detective.
3. Halo Legends, 2010
Halo Legends is a great choice for those interested in the lore of the franchise. The episodes reveal the backstories of the characters much better than in-game cutscenes, and some differences from the original only make the viewing more interesting.
You can learn about the past of the Covenant and the origins of the Spartans. And in some episodes you can even have fun: for example, Odd One Out was created by Daisuke Nishio, and you can immediately read the signature style of the creator of Dragonball with its epicness.
4. Castlevania, 2017-2021
One of Netflix's first anime series based on a game. Castlevania needs no introduction: Konami's iconic series may not be in its prime, but it is still beloved by gamers around the world.
Dracula threatens to destroy mankind. Trevor Belmont has been sent to fight him. The sorceress Sypha and the dhampir Alucard, Dracula's son, come to his aid.
Gradually, the number of characters grows and the motivations become more complex: if at first the plot focused only on the "light" side of the conflict, by the end of the third season there are enough characters from the other side.
The action always maintains a high level: the local fight choreography is done at the highest level and is capable of captivating even the most demanding viewer.
