Kadokawa confirmed on Monday that all three episodes of the My Happy Marriage anime special drop on October 25 — TV Tokyo at 7:00 p.m. JST, Netflix and other services at 8:30 p.m. the same night. There is a new teaser, a new cast member and an ending theme.

Releasing a three-episode special in one night rather than stringing it across three weeks is the interesting decision here, and putting it on Netflix ninety minutes after broadcast is the other one.

Who is back

  • Reina Ueda and Kaito Ishikawa return as Miyo and Kudo.
  • M.A.O joins as new character Kimio Nagaba.
  • Takehiro Kubota directs at Kinema Citrus — he directed season one and the 2024 OVA, and co-directed season two with Masayuki Kojima. He also handles series composition.
  • Mika Tanaka and Ikuho Negi write the scripts.
  • Shōko Yasuda returns on character designs with Hikaru Sato and Kuniyuki Itō.
  • Evan Call composes again.
  • The ending theme is "Prelude no Temae ni: ~for me&you~" by Kashitarō Itō.

The shape of the release

Three episodes, one evening, broadcast and stream on the same day. For a series whose audience is heavily international, the 90-minute gap between TV Tokyo and Netflix is about as close to simulcast as a special like this gets, and it removes the usual window where the whole thing gets spoiled before anyone outside Japan can watch it.

Almost the entire staff from the previous seasons is on this — director, composer, character designer, both leads. Specials are usually where continuity goes to be quietly dropped. Not here.

October 25. Adapted from Akumi Agitogi and Tsukiho Tsukioka's light novels.
