4 Characters That Were Not Ruined by Attack on Titan Ending (Spoiler, It’s ‘cause They’re All Dead)

An appropriate death is sometimes better.

The finale of Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin) was not very kind to a bunch of the series’ characters. Eren saying he’s just an idiot and breaking down over Mikasa finding another man; Mikasa denying her own character development and putting her scarf back on, Armin thanking Eren for the genocide (anime onlys, if you’re puzzled right now, it’s a manga thing) — it’s fair to say that the ending is filled with questionable lines and character decisions.

However, there are some characters that didn’t live long enough to see the final chapter of the story, and some fans think it’s a good thing.

Sasha

This girl has always been among fan favorite characters. Although her death caused an insane outrage back in the days, the most devoted ending haters think it is actually a good thing that she didn’t make it to the end. Sasha stayed true to herself even in the flashbacks that were shown in the series after her death: her true food-loving, eccentric self.

Floch

Ah, one of the most hated Attack on Titan characters. He started annoying most of the fans back in Season 3 and stayed annoying as hell up until his last breath. Nice! But jokes aside, Floch was always loyal to his idea of having “a devil” that was going to save humanity. At first, he saw Erwin as this “devil”, that is why Floch eagerly tried to keep the commander alive. But it didn’t work, and Floch found hope in Eren, and followed him until his very last minute. You may love or hate him, but you can’t deny his loyalty and determination.

Erwin

Although we can’t help but feel sad about his demise, it was executed masterfully. Erwin’s storyline had a wonderful, but cruel conclusion. He died right before fulfilling his dream of learning the truth about the world. Fans can’t help but wonder what could have been if he had inherited the Collosal Titan, but agree that his death is better than seeing him side with the Alliance and try to stop Eren and the Rumbling.

Bertholdt

Definitely not a fan favorite (even among the Reiner/Bertholdt/Annie trio), but also an important character. Bertholdt managed to do everything he had to do for the story, and when it was his time to die, he died. His storyline wasn’t dragged on for ages just to keep him involved. Season 3 gave us more perspective on him, and showed a glimpse into his emotions and suffering. Bertholdt served his purpose, and wasn’t needed in the finale.
