With an anime like Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin) deaths of a couple of your favorite characters are inevitable. While it provides an anxious feeling of danger as well as makes you actually invested in the story, it doesn’t mean that you really want your faves dead.
And today we’d like to discuss Attack on Titan characters, whose deaths were upsetting to fans, although sometimes necessary.
5. Marco
You may find this particular choice rather strange, but hear us out. Although Marco wasn’t in the series for a long time, he managed to attract a pretty big number of fans. And we can’t forget the Marco/Jean shippers, either. We’re sure you’ve seen a couple of endearing yet heartbreaking fanarts of these two. Marco’s death was very sudden, and when Season 3 provided more context to it, it became even more tragic. He definitely didn’t deserve such a treatment.
4. Eren
Although his death has been pretty obvious for a long time before the finale, it doesn’t mean that it didn’t hurt. The boy who just wanted to be free and protect his friends is the heart of Attack on Titan, and we’ve been watching him grow and develop for a good ten years. He had to die, yes, but isn’t there a small part of you that actually wishes he hadn’t?
3. Hange
Hange was the sunshine of the series. Extremely eccentric, cheerful most of the time, caring and loyal. This scientist’s crazy eyes whenever they were talking about titans will remain in our hearts forever. Hange’s over-the-top demeanor went with their stoicism incredibly well, and it’s difficult not to miss them. Hange’s death was heroic, but heartbreaking.
2. Erwin
One of the cruelest deaths in the entire Attack on Titan series. Erwin’s dream was to learn the truth about the world and check if his father’s ideas were true and there actually were people living outside of Paradis. Erwin was so close to fulfilling his dream, but died an episode before the big basement reveal that proved his theory.
1. Sasha
Despite not being among the most important characters of the series, Sasha has always been a fan favorite. This girl generated tons of potato memes and her love for good food has become a running gag of Attack on Titan. Apart from being just adorable and super funny, Sasha was also a true friend and a skilled fighter. Her death was one of the most emotional moments in the anime, and some fans are still hating on Gabi just because she dared kill their favorite character.
