5 Things to Like (or Hate) About Mieruko-chan

Mieruko-chan is a story about a girl who can see but tries to ignore ghosts and spirits. Here is why you might (not) like it!

Mieruko-chan is an unusual take on the horror genre, with the main character being plagued by horrible visions while trying to pretend that she does not see anything. Here are a few reasons to like or dislike this anime.

The Protagonist

Miko Yotsuya is the main character of Mieruko-chan, and she is quite interesting, if only because she chose to pretend not to notice monsters around her rather than fight them in any manner. Of course, that decision might prove to be something you do not like; after all, a proactive protagonist is often more fun than one who spends all the screentime scared without doing anything about it. As such, you might either like or hate Miko, but that does not mean that the whole story is uninteresting.

Supporting Cast

The supporting cast is relatively diverse. There is an air-headed girl, who constantly attracts spirits. There is another horror-seeing girl. There is a fortune teller. And, naturally, the main character has a family. Some of those characters may appear annoying (for example, the airhead), so you might hate them, but others are quite sweet. You cannot avoid liking a guy who helps cats, can you?

Horror

Yes, this is a horror story. Miko, unfortunately, is plagued by monsters, who she tries to ignore, but the whole situation of constantly being accosted by different horrible things is wearing down on her. If you do not like horror, you probably will not like Mieruko-chan, if only because the premise of the story is mostly horror. However, there are other aspects of the story that might catch your attention.

Comedy

Recently, a lot of stories seem to approach horror with some comedy as a side dish. Possibly, it is meant to give viewers some opportunity to rest from all the horror, or possibly the creators just like comedy, but it is there. Some would say that this horror-comedy combo is well-done and would enjoy it; others would rather not have their horror with comedy please. Both are valid.

The Fanservice

Whether or not you like fanservice, there is a lot of it in Mieruko-chan. It is not necessarily a bad thing, but a lot of people are not very happy about it while others might be attracted to it in the first place.

As you can see, there are a lot of reasons to like or dislike Mieruko-chan. In any scenario, at least something about the anime should be to your liking, so check if you want to give Mieruko-chan a try!
