When a series becomes as big and popular as Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin), it’s obvious that it’s going to receive a lot of love and appreciation.
The international love for this anime is so great that other series can’t keep from making references to it. So let’s look at some of them!
Kiss Him, Not Me! (Watashi ga Motete Dousunda)
During an event at a cosplay cafe, there were a couple of references. First there was an eyecatch with the Attack-on-Titan-like wall with various characters looking from behind it like titans.
And then there was the Survey Corps uniform that the cosplayers were wearing for the event.
It feels like this scene from Mr. Osomatsu could’ve been taken from a humorous adaptation of Attack on Titan.
There’s a huge “titan” breaking the wall, everyone is using the “ODM gear”, and if you’ve watched Attack on Titan as many times as we have, you’ll notice that even the direction of the scene is the same as when Eren met the Colossus Titan.
Outbreak Company
Outbreak Company loves Attack on Titan a bit too much. First its main protagonist tries to “cosplay” Eren with his behavior and phrases a lot. Then he’s talking about killing all the titans while reading a manga with characters resembling Mikasa and Sasha.
Koyomimonogatari
When Koyomi was talking about schools with accessible rooftops, he mentions that such places are usually surrounded by tall fences or walls. And you probably see where this is going.
The next frame shows him “cosplaying” a titan with his giant hand on a huge wall, standing up from behind it like the Colossus Titan.
This reference is a pretty minor one, but observant fans have noticed it still. In one of the scenes of Servant x Service, there are a couple of costumes hanging on a wall. And one of them is undoubtedly the Survey Corps uniform.
Back in Season 1 Saitama had to deal with Marugori, who used to be a human but was turned into a mutated giant. Although it might not have been an Attack on Titan reference, we can’t deny how similar his giant form is to the Armor Titan.
The Simpsons
The Simpsons Season 26 Episode 4 had plenty of references to other media, and if you’re also a Naruto fan, you’ll be happy, but now we’re talking about Attack on Titan.
If you look closely, you’ll see that Lisa is wearing the Survey Corps uniform, and since she also wears the iconic red scarf, we have a feeling she’s supposed to be Mikasa here.
Everyone loves Attack on Titan.
