The confrontation between heaven and hell, angels and demons has become one of the most popular plots in the fantasy genre. And animation is not far behind. We have collected four anime about angels, in which there is room for both heart-wrenching drama and witty comedy.
1. Angel's Egg, 1985
A girl lives in a scary surreal world of darkness and shadows, similar to a gothic nightmare. She cannot let go of a mysterious egg, and her only entertainment is collecting various artifacts.
One day, the girl meets a strange traveler with bandaged hands and a pistol in the shape of a cross. Suddenly, the dead city awakens, and the living statues begin to hunt the two.
Hiding from an attack in a cave, the man, hoping to satisfy his curiosity, breaks the mysterious egg. Feeling a strong sense of bitterness and loss, the girl dies, and the last bubbles of her sighs rise to the surface in myriads of new eggs.
2. Angel Sanctuary, 2000
The plot revolves around 16-year-old high school student Setsuna. The young man lives the normal life of a teenager: he goes to school and is secretly in love with a girl named Sara. But they are not meant to be together, because Sara is his younger sister.
Because of his forbidden love, Setsuna is hated by his own mother, and his classmates, who find out about the secret, start bullying him at school. In reality, however, Setsuna is the reincarnation of the angel Alexiel, and Sara is the reincarnation of Gabriel, the angel of water.
One day, the lovers run away from home together, but instead of planning for the future, they have to take part in a war with demons.
3. D.N. Angel, 2003
The protagonist, 14-year-old Daisuke, confesses his love to a girl named Risa on his birthday. The rejected young man returns home with a broken heart and suddenly experiences strange metamorphoses.
He literally turns into another creature – a ghost thief named Dark, a fallen angel with a noble heart. It turns out that due to a strange hereditary disease, all the men in Daisuke's family receive the essence of Dark.
Daisuke's alter ego has also fallen in love with Risa, and it seems that the feelings are mutual. Now the teenager has to deal with a love triangle where the main competitor for the attention of his beloved girl is a fallen angel trapped in his body.
4. Heaven's Lost Property, 2009-2010
Tomoki is not much different from any other teenager. But for several years, the young man has been having the same dream every day, in which an unknown girl asks him for help, saying that she has been seized by the sky.
One day, the sky opened up and the same girl, Ikaros, fell to earth and declared that she was a gynoid and that Tomoki was now her master, whose every wish she was happy to fulfill.
At first, Tomoki thinks he has found himself in a fairy tale. All he has to do is ask Ikaros and he can become a millionaire or the leader of the world. However, the young man soon realizes that he will have to pay for every wish.
