There is still hope.
Summary:
- Haikyuu Season 5 was never announced.
- The studio decided to finish adapting the manga with two movies.
- Fans have doubts about the movies and still hope there will be Season 5.
Haikyuu!! is one of the most popular sports anime series. The first season of the anime aired back in 2014. Can you believe it? It’s been ten years since we first fell in love with our favorite volleyball players!
Since then, we’ve had three more seasons, a couple of OVAs and compilation movies. And February 2024 brought us the Haikyuu!! Battle of the Garbage Dump movie, which is the first part of the two-part manga finale adaptation.
Although both movies were announced as a way to finish adapting the manga, fans have a lot of questions. After Season 4 was over, there were still more than 100 manga chapters that we didn’t see in the anime. And it’s obvious that’s a bit too much content for two movies.
Now that the first movie is out, fans’ worries are back. They don’t think it’s possible to fit the rest of the manga content in just one movie, so they naturally want to know how the series will progress. Will there be Season 5 after all?
Is Season 5 happening?
It’s highly unlikely that Production I.G have changed their minds about adapting the finale into two movies. And they also knew how much content was left, so if they decided that two movies would be enough to adapt it, it means they had a plan. However, manga readers can’t help their lack of trust.
Haikyuu is one of the most beloved sports series out there, so it’s natural for fans to worry about its future. Especially when it comes to something as important as the finale. They definitely don’t want anything to ruin it. And manga readers think that finishing the series with the movies is not the best strategy.
It’s important to point out that the second movie is happening. Theatrical releases bring animation studios a lot of money, and Haikyuu is an immensely popular series, so we can be sure it’ll do great at the box office.
Still, fans believe that there is something Production I.G is not telling them. They have a feeling that Season 5 was always part of the plan, it just wasn’t announced. And it might even go two different ways.
One way is if the season repeats the events that will be adapted in the movie (something like Demon Slayer did with the Mugen Train Arc), and another way is if the second movie won’t be enough to actually finish adapting the manga, and the studio will be forced to make Season 5.
