As we still don’t have any news about the Chainsaw Man Reze movie, fans are forced to speculate. The harsh reality is that we probably aren’t getting it until at least 2025 — and it might take even more time for it to be released on legal streaming and Blu-Ray.
Of course, fans of the series are worried that by the time the movie comes out, a lot of people won’t care about Chainsaw Man anymore. At first glance, this might sound like a baseless concern — but perhaps people are right.
Movies Take a While to Come Out
Movie sequels in general tend to be pretty controversial with anime fans, especially with Western ones. The reason is that to see them, you either have to go to a movie theater (or a limited screening at a convention) or wait for quite a long time.
More successful movies also tend to have longer theatrical runs, with most fans being able to watch them a year or so after the initial release at times.
Given how successful Chainsaw Man has been in Japan, it won’t be released on legal streaming for quite a while after its release — and, considering we don’t even have a trailer at this point, it’s unlikely to release in the next six months.
It would make sense for it to be released in 2025, which would mean a three-year break between the TV series and the movie sequel.
Many Fans Will Stop Caring by the Time the Movie Comes Out
In modern anime fandoms, three years is a long time. During that time, an anime can fall out of relevance, and fans are worried it might happen to Chainsaw Man as well.
While that franchise is far too big to become irrelevant in just 3 years, it’s already not being discussed as much as it was back when the TV anime aired. It seems that fans are tired of waiting, and many of them have moved on to something else.
Some also have become disappointed with where the manga has been heading — it’s really hard for them to care about Part 2.
It Will Probably Affect CSM’s Popularity Negatively
The movie will probably be successful enough to receive future sequels — or, at least, we hope so. That said, long breaks between releases have never contributed to making the anime more popular, and Chainsaw Man might already be slowly disappearing from the public view.
