Everything We Know About the Upcoming Witcher Anime

Geralt is back!

Summary:

  • Netflix has announced a new Witcher anime.
  • The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep will be released in late 2024.
  • Doug Cockle is going to come back to his role as Geralt.

Netflix has recently announced that they’re working on a new animated project in the Witcher universe. Seems like Netflix is particularly fond of this series since they’ve also gifted us a life action adaptation before. Moreover, this is not the first Witcher anime project, either. The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf premiered in 2021 and focused on young Vesemir, who later became Geralt’s (the original protagonist) mentor.

The Witcher is a greatly popular universe

The Witcher was originally a book series written by a Polish writer, Andrzej Sapkowski. It was later adapted into a video game, which received two sequels and has become one of the best video games in the world. The story revolves around a witcher, Geralt, who hunts various beasts and protects people from dark creatures.

The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep is an upcoming Netflix series. Unlike its predecessor, the new anime is going to focus on Geralt himself and will take place between Episodes 5 and 6 of the first season of the live action Netflix adaptation. Geralt’s services are required to investigate a series of attacks in a seaside village, and the witcher is going to go deeper into the water this time, judging from an official teaser.

The teaser is out

Despite having the disappointing “coming late 2024” and forcing us to wait for a whole year, the teaser does a lot to get fans all hyped up. Due to the live action series receiving mixed reviews and being widely criticized, the hope of ever getting a good Witcher adaptation is fading. But Sirens of the Deep looks promising for now. The art style and the story feel rather enjoyable, and it’s extremely exciting to see where this all is going to lead us.

A couple of disappointments also followed the teaser. One of them seems to be Geralt’s character design. Both the games and the live action adaptation tend to make him look extremely muscular and handsome, while in reality he was never like that in the books. But we’ll let it go, since it’s always nice to receive an eye candy.

The music in the teaser doesn’t feel quite right. It’s epic, yeah, but it lacks the typical slavic vibe that The Witcher is so loved for. The game series soundtrack was so phenomenal, that it’s just weird when it’s missing.

There’s also awesome news for the game fans. Doug Cockle, who voices Geralt in the video games, is back! He’s going to dub the character one more time in Sirens of the Deep. Live action Witcher stars, Anya Chalotra and Joey Batey, are also going to come back to their roles of Yennefer and Jaskier (or Dandelion, if you please), and we can’t wait to hear them again.
