To be fair, the designs aren’t an issue.
Summary:
- Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest has revealed character designs, but fans aren’t happy.
- There’s nothing wrong with the designs themselves, but fans feel the sequel is unnecessary.
- The anime will air this July.
Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest just released a set of new character visuals for the main cast. Normally, for a franchise as big as Fairy Tail, this would excite the fans. However, this time, they aren’t actually very happy — but that doesn’t have anything to do with the character designs themselves.
The Designs Are Just as They Were
In fact, the character designs are the same as ever. They didn’t really get worse or anything, and all the characters look like themselves in the original. By all accounts, that should have been fine with the fans… except, it isn’t.
Fans dislike the “new” character visuals because they aren’t even new — they are exactly the same as they were. Fairy Tail already had a reputation for being way too repetitive, and we’re getting a sequel now; many fans are wondering if it is even needed.
The final season of Fairy Tail was already criticized for somewhat losing what made the series entertaining — although, arguably, it was more of the same. The anime just didn’t age well, and a lot of fans simply stopped caring about it by the time it was out.
The Finale Served No Purpose Because There’s a Sequel
It was also clearly stated to be the final season… except, apparently, it wasn’t. 100 Years Quest continues from exactly where the inal season left off, making it not the final season in the first place.
This prompts viewers to compare the series to Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin), which had its final season continued to Final Season Part 2 and even further.
Still, at least Attack on Titan adapted the same source material as it always did. Compare it to Fairy Tail, which ended and immediately continued after that. It feels like the finale had no weight at all because of this.
100 Years Quest is more of the same, and only die-hard Fairy Tail fans seem to care about it. Many think the anime has run for way too long already, and if you stopped enjoying it at some point, it’s probably not worth it anymore.
Confirmed to Air This Summer
From the production standpoint, there’s nothing wrong with 100 Years Quest character designs, however. They’re perfectly fine as they always were. The anime also confirmed its air date of July 2024, and fans of the series who still care about it are excited to get more.
