In Babylon, Fate meets another bearer of a Deadly Sin skill — Ellis of Lust. She gives him some information about people like him; apparently there are different generations of people with Deadly Sin skills. However, despite being useful, Ellis is instantly branded by fans as sketchy.

It might be because she admits to basically stalking Fate while he was in the capital, which is admittedly, rather unsettling. She might have meant well, but stalking someone does not make you seem reliable.

It might also be because of Ellis' powers, which are a little insidious. Ellis admits that because of her Lust skill all people of any gender or age fall in love with her, which makes her potentially very dangerous.

It is not Ellis’ fault that she was born with such a skill, and it would be unfair to hate her for it. But aside from giving some useful information, she also says more than enough to get fan hate, especially when she reveals her plan on how to achieve greater good.

Are ‘greater good’ plans always sketchy?

The Greater Good

According to Ellis, Roxy dying in Babylon would help to accumulate more hate for a special, Crowned Human to be born. As a result, she has already set a plan in motion to make sure that Roxy does not leave Babylon alive for the greater good of the entire nation.

Naturally, both Fate and the audience immediately reject her proposal. In fact, fans are sure that claiming to do something terrible for the greater good is always questionable. They do not trust Ellis enough to believe her, and some are sure that she has some insidious plan prepared instead of thinking about the well-being of humans.

While Myne received universal support from fans, Ellis is universally disliked. It could be her powers, behavior, intentions, or all of the above, but in any case, Ellis has yet to make the audience sympathize with her. So will we change our minds? Let's see in the next episodes.
