Frieren: Beyond Journey's End has finished its first cour. The series will now take a short break and return on January 5th. Episode 16 was impressive — it delighted with the touching story of Frieren's old friend. But it was not surprising. The whole series is done on a high level and has many impressive elements. However, despite the viewing pleasure, fans sensed possible changes coming and were seriously concerned. What's the matter?
Probability is high
Episode 16 focused on Frieren's visit to a small village where her old friend lives. We were told the old man's touching story and shown more details of the main character's previous adventure. Fans were impressed that Frieren finally openly admitted her affection for Himmel. However, the episode also featured other important Sein-related elements.
It began with a brief backstory introducing Sein and his childhood friend Gorilla. Almost immediately, it becomes clear that the character is very concerned about his missing friend and is constantly thinking about him. He is upset and brooding for most of the episode. Sein asks the other heroes to visit the village Gorilla once passed through to find out more details. He succeeds, but the information he gets puts him in a dilemma.
In fact, the heroes are heading in a different direction, and Sein has to decide whether to continue with Frieren or go off on his own. Since the character has only recently joined the group, fans have many questions. Will he really leave so soon?
Will it be bad for the plot?
Despite being a very controversial character, Sein has fit in well with the Frieren team. He is a second adult character that brings balance. The priest also became a symbolic father figure for Fern. With him, the Frieren group looks more like the hero squad shown at the beginning of the series — there are now 4 characters and all the roles are perfectly distributed. Not surprisingly, many fans are concerned about the possibility of his imminent departure.
However, this is a likely outcome given the fact that Sein only joined the group because he wanted to find his friend. Will it change the show? Probably yes. The characters are now on their way to a magical test to qualify and continue their adventure.
Sein will probably leave them for a while, and that's frustrating. Sure, because it will break the chemistry between the heroes. But there's no reason to be upset! Perhaps he'll come back with another interesting character.
Would it be better without Sein?
Fans are worried about Sein's intentions.
