Girls Band Cry is an upcoming original anime series by Toei Animation. The project was announced back in April 2023, and it feels like this month is going to be special for the anime since the freshly released trailer sets the premiere of Girls Band Cry for April 2024.
A new band is coming
This will come as a shocker, but the anime is about… a girl band! We know, you would’ve never thought. This is a story of several girls that come together united by their love for music and singing. The main character drops out of high school in her second year and aims at entering a university while working alone in Tokyo. A girl is betrayed by her friends and doesn't know what to do. Another girl is abandoned by her parents and tries to survive in the city by doing part-time jobs. But their band is where they can all forget the harshness of the world and just enjoy themselves.
Togenashi Togeari is the name of the band, and Toei Animation has previously released a couple of music videos of the band, so you can have an idea of the type of music the girls are going to sing in the series.
New visual and teaser are out
The fresh visual portrays all band members, and they look stunning. Their eyes are sparkling with excitement, and you can’t help but want to see them on stage right now. The teaser is adorable and everything you could have expected from an anime trailer featuring a girl band. The 3D art style reminds you of RWBY (the original series, not the anime version), and to be honest, we haven’t really fully decided if this is a good or bad thing. It looks unusual, that’s for sure.
Fans have noticed the similarities to Bocchi the Rock due to the series being an anime about a girl band, but it’s too early to say how much Girls Band Cry will remind us of Bocchi the Rock. They are also hyped for more music by Togenashi Togeari, because all the previously released songs were bangers, so there’s hope to get even more.
The aforementioned 3D element of the animation is the only thing that some fans seem to dislike for now, as they would have preferred the series to be 2D entirely. But we’re willing to give the series a chance and see if the story and the music are so good that we’ll forget about all the 3D.
