Suzume (Suzume no Tojimari) is a rather fresh animated movie released in 2022. This coming-of-age fantasy adventure story was written and directed by Makoto Shinkai, who’s also known for such a huge project as Your Name (Kimi no Na wa). The movie follows a 17-year-old girl, Suzume, who stumbles across a stranger looking for an abandoned area. The girl helps Souta, the said stranger, find the place, and decides to follow the man out of curiosity. That’s how she finds a mysterious door, behind which there’s a hidden universe. Suzume leaves the place but it’s too late: the door has been opened, and the evil from another universe roams free now, wreaking havoc on the country. Suzume and Souta join their forces to prevent the horrors and lock all the open doors there are.

One of the highest-grossing anime movies of all time

Suzume became a great success. The movie has grossed over $323.3 million worldwide, and has become the fourth highest-grossing anime movie of all time. Critics’ reviews were mostly positive, noting the amazing visuals of the movie as well as incredible soundtrack and peculiar story. Suzume won a couple of awards, including “Outstanding Achievement in Music” at Japan Academy Film Prize, and “Silver Raven” at Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival.

You’ll be able experience this story on Crunchyroll

On November 13th, Crunchyroll announced that Suzume is coming to the streaming service this week. In just a few days, starting November 16th at 5:00 p.m. PT, the movie will be exclusively available on Crunchyroll. The regions that will have the opportunity to watch Suzume are North America, Central America, South America, Europe (excluding France), Africa, Oceania, the Middle East and CIS.

Fans seem excited to finally watch the movie. They’re pleasantly surprised that this variety of regions are included into the territories of the release, however, they’re puzzled by the decision to exclude France from the list. Fans mention that it’s connected to the matter of French law, which states that a theatrically released movie is allowed on streaming services only after a certain period of time.

Shinkai’s fans are hyped for the project. Those who have already had the chance to see it in Japan, promise a great adventure and mention that it’s one of the best movies made by this filmmaker. They add that they enjoyed Your Name a little bit more, though, but Suzume is still a great watch, and they can’t wait to experience it again on Crunchyroll.
