After the seal is lifted in Episode 7, both fans and we are left to wonder if the College’s Headmistress was any help at all in the case of the energy thief. But what if she never meant to help with that case? Let’s discuss.
The Seal
The Headmistress was quick to put a seal on the College when energy thief attacks started. It seemed like a reasonable solution at the time. However, soon after, the Headmistress learned that the book used to steal energy remained in the College. In other words, she knew with some certainty that she was sealing innocent students in College together with the energy thief. Despite that, she didn’t change her decision, and the seal stayed, trapping the potential victims with the thief.
Catching the Thief
Perhaps, you could argue, the Headmistress wanted to catch the thief and needed to keep them trapped in the College. However, even her staff states that she didn’t do much to figure out who the thief was. There were no searches, no interrogations, nothing.
Of course, the Headmistress was not equipped to solve such a problem. But then, she should have found someone who could solve the problem, and she didn’t. To be fair, there are two witches investigating the case, but they are not in the College, where the thief is.
Overall, the Headmistress did surprisingly little, which makes her decisions even more suspicious.
Lifting the Seal
When Philomela breaks down and shows the College that she is the thief, she asks for the seal to be lifted, holding a few students hostage. The Headmistress lifts the seal, and this decision makes sense since the Headmistress has to protect the rest of the students. However, it also makes the seal completely useless. Under the seal, Philomela managed to collect all the energy she needed for her Grandmother before escaping. If anything, the Headmistress helped Philomela.
Indeed, the Headmistress didn’t keep the students safe, and she made zero effort to identify and stop the thief. Fans of the anime find it concerning, but nobody suggests that the Headmistress and Philomela’s grandmother cooperate. Let’s hope that we never get any evidence of that.
