At least fans are optimistic.
Summary:
- Fans are wondering if Gushing over Magical Girls will get another season.
- The anime is definitely successful enough for it.
- There’s enough content in the manga for one more season at the moment.
The anime adaptation of Gushing over Magical Girls (Mahou Shoujo ni Akogarete) has been a resounding success. The series sold over 8000 BD/DVD copies in the first week, which is an insanely high number — especially for a yuri ecchi series.
Neither genre sells that well most of the time, and, as such, fans are wondering if they will get a sequel in the future.
The Anime Is Definitely Popular Enough for a Sequel
Of course, the sales (and general popularity) of Gushing over Magical Girls indicate that the anime is very successful. By all means, it has sold more than enough to guarantee a second season at some point. In fact, it was previously reported that the anime had to print more BDs due to the amount of pre-orders.
Clearly, there’s no issue with Gushing over Magical Girls being profitable enough to receive a second season. These days, you often get announcements for sequels right after the first season ends. Granted, most of the time, that happens when the anime is already planned for multiple seasons — or if its success was expected.
In the case of Gushing over Magical Girls, it’s clearly the opposite situation. While the anime invested heavily in promotional campaigns, aiming for a very small — but dedicated — target audience, the producers probably didn’t expect it to become this popular. As such, it was initially planned for only one cour.
There’s Enough Content for Another Season
However, the manga has a lot more content to adapt. In fact, there is clearly enough for at least one more season.
The anime ends at Chapter 24, but it actually skipped Chapter 22 — probably to accommodate for a more natural pacing. There are currently 58 chapters out, and at this pace, we can get one more season.
The manga doesn’t seem to be anywhere close to ending, though. The fact that it's monthly doesn’t help either — if we get a second season, we’d have to wait years for another one. Still, fans don’t even demand a full adaptation — they just want more content.
With how popular the anime is, it’s hard to imagine it not getting a sequel. Lack of content to adapt isn’t a concern, either, and most fans are convinced that there will be a sequel at some point.
Of course, they want it to be just as good — there is no reason to watch it if it goes down on fanservice.
