Ishura Season 2 Announced: What Can We Expect?

Ishura Season 2 Announced: What Can We Expect?

One of the most underrated anime of Winter 2024 is getting a second season.

Summary:

  • Ishura is getting a second season, and fans wonder if Disney sponsored the entire thing.
  • It still won’t get to the part of the plot that was teased in Episode 1.
  • Fans are happy, but there are some concerns over the animation quality.

Ishura was one of the most underrated anime of Winter 2024. It can easily be seen why: the first episode teases some sort of competition battle royale in the future.

However, the next 4 introduce more and more characters. Things are happening, but unless you pay a lot of attention, the plot only becomes clear in the second half of the anime. Ishura probably wasn’t made for being watched weekly.

At the end of S1, the second season was announced immediately. That made those who followed the anime to the end very happy — but this announcement wasn’t as unexpected as you might have thought.

It still won’t get to the competition part

Ishura was obviously going to get a sequel. The official Japanese account posted giveaways for those who followed the show. The light novels sell very well, and the adaptation got an all-star seiyuu cast, which was heavily involved with promoting it.

Some fans wonder if Disney sponsored the entire series being adapted — after all, the anime is exclusive to Disney+ and Hulu. It’s impossible to confirm or deny it, but that’s definitely possible. If that’s true, we’re likely getting more than one more season — at the moment, there are 9 volumes released.

The main event of Ishura, the promised competition between demigod-like beings, isn’t going to start in the second season if the anime continues at the same pace as S1 had.

After all, the first season adapted its light novel nearly perfectly and without cutting much, which resulted in it only covering one volume of the light novels — which is considered a very slow pace for normal LN adaptations, but actually perfect for Ishura.

The only concerns are over the animation quality

There are some concerns about this sequel being a thing, however. The first season of Ishura already looked rough during some moments, relying on CGI a bit too much — although the action was still good. This might continue into the second season or even get worse.

Others are concerned not only for Ishura, but also for the upcoming remake for Spice and Wolf (Ookami to Koushinryou). They’re made by the same studio, Passione, and the only major complaint about the Spice and Wolf remake was that it was going to look worse than the old adaptation.

With the two anime sharing some of the staff, fans wonder how the production for both will turn out — especially because the Spice and Wolf remake is rumored to be two cours.
