It’s Cool That You’re Enjoying the Dungeon Meshi Anime, but Don’t Sleep on the Manga, Either

It’s just as good when you read it!

Summary:

  • Dungeon Meshi is becoming a total hit this season.
  • There’s also the manga that's rather short and finished.
  • The manga is just as incredible.

Delicious in Dungeon (Dungeon Meshi) keeps becoming more and more hyped this season, and we 100% understand why. With just two aired episodes, this anime has managed to make fans fall in love with its world, characters and hilarious humor. We’re sure that upcoming episodes will only make people love it more.

You don’t really expect a comedy series about cooking to be that good, but Dungeon Meshi is something special. We have to admit, though, that Frieren did a great job at making fans interested in a similar setting, magic and elves, so Dungeon Meshi chose just the right time to be airing.

With the anime adaptation getting more and more popular, people cannot help their curiosity and impatience. And what is the best way to solve the patience issue anime-onlys might have? Read the manga, of course!

Is the manga good?

The simple answer is “yes, it is.” It was written and illustrated by Ryoko Kui, and started back in 2014. But do you want to know the best thing about it? It’s already finished! The last chapter was published in September 2023, which also makes the finale of the story rather fresh.

On top of that, it’s not that long: only 102 chapters, which makes it perfect if you want something short to binge on. Although it might also make you super upset because it will be time to say goodbye to these wonderful characters after such a small amount of time.

Incredible characters

The characters are indeed wonderful. Fans have been praising Ryoko Kui’s writing for ages, saying that she’s incredibly good when it comes to worldbuilding, character development and interactions, and narration. And we can’t forget that incredible humor!

Character design is another thing that manga readers really enjoy. The characters look unique and refreshing, there’s a diversity of body types and appearances. Each character has something interesting about them, and you just want to follow them all.

The only bad thing, as mentioned before, is that the story is over, and fans don’t know whether they will ever have the chance to experience new adventures of their favorite characters.

Still, they agree that it would be better for the mangaka to start a new story instead of keeping Dungeon Meshi alive. And for now we have the anime adaptation to give the fandom something to look forward to.
