The reasons behind the downfall are different, however.
It’s still not as bad as the Attack on Titan finale.
Recent developments in the Jujutsu Kaisen manga have been very polarizing. It’s hard to blame the fans: many believe that way too many characters have already died, and there’s hardly any reason to follow the series anymore.
Others point out that the story hasn’t progressed for a while, and at this point it’s just repetitive and uninteresting. There are many complaints about JJK, and not all are unwarranted.
It’s somewhat sad to see the downfall of something that was once incredibly beloved. That said, it’s definitely not the first time — and there was already a similar case recently.
AoT and JJK are both disliked in the last arcs
Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin) suffered a similar backlash from its own fandom in its final arcs. Once a manga incredibly beloved by the majority of fans, it became severely polarizing in its post-timeskip arcs — and the finale was disliked by many.
It feels like Jujutsu Kaisen is heading in the same direction. At this point, many fans are done with the series, and some of them even wish for the anime to “fix” the current arc. That is probably not happening — even if the anime gets to it in the first place.
The reasons behind the change in perspective
Funnily enough, there are some similarities between the two manga. Both attracted many fans and got a ton of people into anime, both got top-tier adaptations, and both feature a lot of cruel and unexpected deaths.
The last part is more of a problem for Jujutsu Kaisen than it was for Attack on Titan, though. At least AoT didn’t spend many chapters on killing off some of the most beloved characters, making them fight a clearly overpowered villain.
Interestingly, the reasons for the negative reception of the two manga are completely different. For AoT, it was getting too political and not treating its core themes properly, as well as the character writing becoming worse.
For JJK, nothing of sort really happened — there was no sudden change in the manga content. In fact, it’s doing exactly what it has always done — fans are just upset about the lack of progress.
Still not as bad as the very finale of AoT
At least Jujutsu Kaisen is not as poorly received at this moment as the very last stretch of the Attack on Titan chapters. The latter has already been called one of the worst finales in manga history, and while that is debatable, one thing is certain: the finale of AoT is not liked. JJK fans hope no such thing happens to their manga.
Granted, this is in no way unique to AoT. Many shounen manga have been extremely disappointing in their final arcs, even series like Bleach and Naruto. Jujutsu Kaisen heading in that direction is sad, but not unexpected.
