Jujutsu Kaisen Mobile Game Has Just Released, and Japanese Fans Love It

No date for a global release, though.

Summary:

  • Jujutsu Kaisen mobile gacha RPG releases on November 21, features both story from the manga and a completely new plot.
  • The game is developed by Sumzap.
  • There is currently no information on when the game is going to be available in the West.

With how popular Jujutsu Kaisen is, it was only a matter of time before it started to branch out into other forms of entertainment. At the height of the production controversies behind the currently ongoing Season 2, and exclusive to Japan only, it is no wonder that the new mobile game based on the series, Jujutsu Kaisen: Phantom Parade, flew under everyone’s radar.

The game sweeps over Japanese Twitter

The game, Phantom Parade (or, as it abbreviated in Japan, PhanPara), was just released on November 21st in Japan — and immediately started trending on Twitter. It’s a role-playing gacha game based on the series, and allows the fans to relive their favorite events from the manga. It also lets them follow their favorite characters in a brand-new story unique to the game. It is uncertain how canon the game plot actually is, but the Japanese fans love it nevertheless: the game was trending in Japan on X (formerly Twitter) just a few hours after release. The cast of the anime series reprised their roles in the game, adding another immersion factor to it.

The developer

Phantom Parade is developed by Suzmap, a mobile game developer known for their involvement with KonoSuba: Fantastic Days, a similar game based on the KonoSuba franchise. They also collaborated with Bushiroad and Drecom on the multimedia project D_Cide Traumerei, which also includes an anime by studio SANZIGEN, releasing back in 2021. Moreover, they are also on the production committee for Jujutsu Kaisen anime itself, suggesting that there have been plans for this game for quite a while.

When can we play it?

With the game being praised by the Japanese JJK fans for being fun and entertaining, as well as for its amazing design and art, one might wonder about the worldwide release. However, there is no information as of now about when the developers are planning to release the game globally. Although given the franchise’s popularity, there is a decent chance a global release is planned to happen at some point. Right now, there are ways for the Western fans to play it, but they require changing your region to Japan, as well as either learning the Japanese language or using machine translations, which are often subpar. It’s a bit sad that a part of a popular franchise will remain inaccessible for a large percentage of the viewers, but not entirely unexpected: countless popular shows have spin-off materials exclusive to Japan that most fans have not even heard of.
