Laid-Back Camp Posts Another Trailer for Season 3: Fans Are Still Concerned About the New Art Style

Are people going to boycott the third season?

Summary:

  • Laid-Back Camp is one of the most popular slice of life shows nowadays, with its third season being set to air in Spring 2024.
  • Some fans are unhappy about the change in the show’s art, which is prompted by the anime going to a different studio.
  • However, most people are just happy to see the show getting more sequels.

Laid-Back Camp (Yuru Camp△) originally came out in 2018 — and quickly became one of fans’ favorite slice of life shows. Praised for its comfy vibes, it got many otaku into camping and/or hiking, and fans have been begging for more content. They received a sequel, a movie, a couple of specials and a short series across the next few years, and there still was more to come. Season 3 is on its way, the start date has been revealed to be April 2024, except this time, fans aren’t that happy.

The anime art is going to change

The main concern the fans have is about the series’ art style. With all the previous entries having been made by C-Station, the third season, however, will be made by studio 8bit. The series’ art will change as well, as season from the promotional materials currently revealed. Fans aren’t that happy about that: one of the most important parts about “cute girls doing cute things” series’ is their art style, and any change would expectedly upset people who have followed the anime for a while, potentially breaking their immersion.

It will be animated by a different studio

With anime changing studios, art changes like that are actually common. A lot of staff members are being replaced and shuffled around, and that applies to the position of the anime character designer, as well. Moreover, the art can change without the studio actually changing — Haikyuu!! To The Top is an example of that.

In Laid-Back Camp’s case, the changes aren’t actually that major. Ultimately, while some fans do claim that they are not going to watch the series because of the art style change, that seems like an overreaction to most. With the studio behind the show changing, it should have been expected, if anything.

Most fans actually don’t care that much

While a vocal minority of the series’ fans is concerned about the art changes, the majority is actually happy about the series being made in the first place. It’s understandable: Laid-Back Camp is just a show that helps you relax, and ultimately, it’s not like it’s known for its insane animation or anything like that.

Many fans expressed the opinion that they could watch any amount of Laid-Back Camp and not get tired of it. The art changes may take some time to get used to, but as stated above, they aren’t actually that big. The focus of the anime is the characters and what they do, and that doesn’t seem to be changing anytime soon.
