The manga and anime follow the story of an orphan Xin, who manages to help Ying Zheng in his quest for power. They meet after Xin’s friend is used as a double for Ying Zheng and gets fatally wounded as a result of struggle for power. Xin starts out as a soldier, then becomes a commander, and he wants to become the best general in the entire world.

The title has been reimagined in the form of live-action movies, and the anime series have a lot of fans. Season 5 is met with fans being mostly hopeful about the continuation of the story.
