Haikyuu!! Movie: Battle of the Garbage Dump has premiered in Japanese theaters this Friday, and everywhere online, fans are wondering how good it actually is. While we don't have any information on when it will come to online streaming — or released on Blu-Rays — we can only rely on the comments of those who got to see it in theaters. Fortunately, those reviews are overwhelmingly positive.
It looks as great as people expected
The main thing that is praised about the new movie is definitely its animation. We already saw some incredible scenes in the PVs, but some fans were still worried those were just made to showcase the best moments of the movie.

According to those who saw the movie in theaters, the entire thing looks very crisp and clean.
The pacing turned out to be a non-issue
The biggest concern, of course, was not the animation — it was the pacing. When the movie was announced to be just under an hour and a half, many fans were worried that the pacing was going to be too fast for the movie to properly adapt the source material.
Thankfully, to those who got to see the movie already, the pacing felt natural. The movie even got to use some flashbacks, which was a pleasant surprise to the fans. With the rest of the movie being incredibly dynamic, they were like a nice change of pace.
Of course, with the match being quite long (around 40 chapters), some cuts were made. More specifically, some of the less impactful plays were excluded to give more time to show the best moments of the match. Despite that, the movie was a perfectly fine story — the cuts didn't make it any harder to understand.
If you're an anime-only watcher, you probably wouldn't even notice. Manga fans who have watched Battle of the Garbage Dump were generally satisfied with this approach, although they still believe manga has more to offer.
What are we getting next?
Another thing fans were wondering is what the second movie is going to be about. From the trailers revealed, it was assumed that the movie was only going to cover the Nekoma vs Karasuno match. The assumption proved to be correct. The Kamomedai match was not included in the movie, but it was teased in an after-credits scene — it seems that we are getting it in the next movie. That means we can also safely assume that the next movie won't cover the post-timeskip content.
