Spice and Wolf is an anime that is mostly about the shenanigans of a merchant and a harvest deity, who is also a wolf.
In 2024, Spice and Wolf gets a remake titled Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf.
Recently, the November visual for it was dropped.
The visual has strong harvest vibes, which fits both the fall season and Holo’s divine specialty.
Spice and Wolf
Spice and Wolf is about a merchant named Lawrence and a wolf deity named Holo. The two meet when Holo is no longer remembered in her village, where she had granted good harvests. As a result, Holo leaves together with Lawrence, and they start to travel. Holo’s wolf nature is usually shown in her human form through wolf ears and tail, and she looks adorable like that. Lawrence and Holo soon form a strong bond and care about each other.
The 2024 Version
Spice and Wolf has already received an anime adaptation in 2008, two seasons of it. However, a new version is planned for 2024 in honor of the 15-year anniversary of the light novel that the anime is based on. There are some returning crew members, most notably the chief director Takeo Takahashi, but there are new faces as well, for example, composer Kevin Penkin.
The New Visual
November's visual is relatively simple. It has Holo looking back at the viewer and offering them an apple. She is also holding a basket full of fruit, and the whole shot is warmly lit. There are no real signs of autumn; if anything, there are blooming flowers and greenery. Still, the shot is so full of orange and warm light that makes fans think about autumn or at least late summer during harvest time.
Fans liked the visual, and while some suggest that the harvest visual is still to come, this one also reminds people of harvest, which fits Holo the deity very much. Fans also share how much they are looking forward to the anime, especially hoping that it will tell the whole story of Holo and Lawrence. Overall, the visual was met with happy and hopeful messages.
Given that this is a reboot, new Spice and Wolf has a lot to live up to. Let’s hope that the anime manages to do that and more.
