The next arc is supposedly very slow.
Manga spoilers ahead!
Summary:
- Fans wonder how Oshi no Ko S2 will adapt the 2.5D Stage Play arc, which some consider very slow.
- If the anime gets past Season 2, it will become even more controversial.
- There’s no reason to worry just yet.
As Oshi no Ko Season 2 has revealed the air date — July 2024 — fans’ attention has turned to the anime once again. It was so successful it was destined to receive a sequel.
However, not all fans are equally happy about it: the next arc is the 2.5D Stage Play arc, which has a somewhat mixed reception from fans.
The next arc is too slow
The main criticism towards the arc is the fact that it is just too long. For Oshi no Ko, 26 chapters is actually the longest arc in the series. While this isn’t that bad — many fans feel that the complaints about it being too long are overblown — it will be really hard to adapt it properly without completely destroying the pacing.
The first season of the anime adapted the first 40 chapters. The second season will have to adapt the next 40 — both the 2.5D Stage Play arc and the Private arc — unless it stretches the Stage Play arc and makes it last an entire cour. That will make it even slower, though.
While the first season was technically 11 episodes, the first of them was triple length — essentially making it 13 proper episodes long. That makes fans think that to retain the pacing, the new season will have 13 episodes.
Technically, there would be nothing wrong with adapting two arcs in the second season, but the first one might feel too slow for the anime-only fans.
It will be even more controversial if it adapts the manga past those arcs
Season 2 isn’t the only concern for Oshi no Ko fans, though. The franchise is popular enough in Japan that it might adapt the series even further. That, however, will make the series even more controversial than it already is.
The latest chapters of the manga have already been pretty controversial because of the supposed romantic development between Ruby and Aqua. While some argue that it’s not as problematic as many make it look, if that part ever gets adapted, Oshi no Ko will become even more controversial than it already is.
There’s no reason to be worried
That said, there’s no reason to believe that the second season of Oshi no Ko will be much worse than the first one. After all, despite the 2.5D Stage Play arc being somewhat slow, the manga retained its popularity — and surely, studio Doga Kobo will get the adaptation just right.
