Parent-Approved Anime: 5 Series You Can Watch With Your Kids

Not everything has to be dark.

If you're looking for something that you can watch with a kid or a teenager, or if you're just tired of seeing suffering and cruel murder in every other series, this small anime list is for you.

Little Witch Academia

This magical fantasy follows Atsuko Kagari who joins a prestigious school for young girls training to become witches. The girl is struggling with her studies due to her lack of magical abilities and is trying to overcome all of the challenges the world of magic brings her. A kind story about magic, friendship and never giving up will put you in a lighthearted mood and brighten your day.

Spy x Family

A series that has the word "spy" in the title doesn't look like a kids' story at first sight, but don't be scared, it's packed with nice humor, cute characters and hilarious moments. The anime revolves around an intelligence agent, forced to acquire a pretend family in order to achieve his goal. While being quite cruelty free, the anime still has some dark moments, so better avoid watching it with very little kids.

Pokemon

We don't think this series needs much of an introduction due to its extreme popularity. The story of peculiar creatures called Pokemon has become the origin of dozens of projects and attracted millions of people around the world. The anime follows Satoshi, a young Pokemon trainer, who dreams of becoming a pokemon master. Alongside the cute little Pukachu (who's not so harmless during a battle) the main protagonist travels around the world, capturing and training different pokemon.

Studio Ghibli Movies

Although it's not really one particular series, Studio Ghibli is the name that has to be mentioned while speaking about anime for kids. My Neighbor Totoro (Tonari no Totoro), Spirited Away (Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi), Howl's Moving Castle (Howl no Ugoku Shiro) ー all of these are wonderful examples of something that your younger siblings might truly enjoy. On top of that, the movies are exceptionally beautiful and all have a lot of interesting ideas that can teach kids important things.

Avatar: The Last Airbender

Even though it's not an anime per se, no conversation about animation for kids can be left without this series. The story of Aang, an air bender learning to control different elements, cannot leave people of all ages unmoved. It teaches the power of kindness and friendship and shows what true growth and acceptance are. Avatar sets a positive example and portrays incredible character development.
