Reincarnated as the Daughter of the Legendary Hero and the Queen of Spirits anime adaptation was announced this weekend.
While the series is interesting for having a non-villainess female protagonist, the source readers say the isekai setup quickly becomes irrelevant.
The anime is probably not coming out until Summer 2024 at the very least — and we don’t know the studio or staff yet.
Multiple new light novel anime adaptations have been announced this weekend. One of them is Reincarnated as the Daughter of the Legendary Hero and the Queen of Spirits (Chichi wa Eiyuu, Haha wa Seirei, Musume no Watashi wa Tenseisha).
With the light novel having ended over a year ago, this adaptation came out of nowhere — and many otaku, including the source readers, are cautious.
Somewhat different from other isekai — but not different enough
The isekai craze doesn’t seem to be going to die anytime soon. This is another case: the original light novel series had some fans, but definitely wasn’t a huge hit at any point. Fans seem to have enjoyed the character designs, which were made by keepout, who was also responsible for them in Parallel World Pharmacy (Isekai Yakkyoku).
At least it seems that we’re getting more and more isekai series with female protagonists. While they are definitely not a novelty, they definitely provide a fresh breath among the generic power fantasy isekai series with male protagonists.
Many new isekai with female protagonists are also similar because they play into the “reincarnated into a villainess” setup. Reincarnated as the Daughter of the Legendary Hero and the Queen of Spirits is not one of those, which makes it stand out… a little bit.
Source readers’ concerns
When even the source readers are skeptical about the adaptation, you know you should be concerned as well. Otaku who have read Reincarnated as the Daughter of the Legendary Hero and the Queen of Spirits aren’t particularly thrilled about the adaptation.
The main criticisms towards the source material seems to be contrived drama setups and the irrelevance of the isekai part of the premise. The second part isn’t unique to this series, though: it seems that a lot of isekai series fall into this trap.
Expectations and theories
Reincarnated as the Daughter of the Legendary Hero and the Queen of Spirits doesn’t have a date scheduled for its anime adaptation — which indicates that it won’t be out until the summer at the very least. With no staff known, we can’t help but make guesses on the adaptation quality.
The light novels are finished at 11 volumes. At the usual pace of 3-5 LN volumes per cour, the anime will be finished in 2-3 cours. It’s currently unknown, however, if there are plans for a full adaptation: the series is definitely not popular enough to warrant one.
Seems like we’re not out of the isekai era yet.
