Scary Kids: 5 Creepiest Anime Children

Scary Kids: 5 Creepiest Anime Children

We bring you another list of creepy children from anime. Enjoy!

Everybody loves a list, and a lot of people enjoy horror, so here is a list of horror-inducing children. Take a look, and maybe you will find your next anime in there. Do keep in mind, though, that some horror topics might be mentioned here.

Gretel (Black Lagoon)

 - image 1

Gretel is technically inseparable from Hänsel, and there is a suspicion that they might be switching clothes. They are twins, children, and assassins, wielding professional-looking weapons, as well as a literal ax. Gretel is also cited to have an angelic voice, which, frankly, is even creepier. Creepy child singing only amplifies the fear.

Mariko Kurama (Elfen Lied)

 - image 2

Mariko Kurama is Number 35. She is technically a mutant, or, to use the anime name for it, Diclonius. She is exceptionally powerful with very long “vectors,” which are like invisible hands that can move through objects and slice things. This creepy girl did her fair share of violence, but with how she had been treated, it is not surprising.

Hotaru Tomoe (Sailor Moon)

 - image 3

Hotaru Tomoe spends enough time on the screen for us to feel for her, which is why it is heartbreaking to learn of her destructive power. Hotaru is a sweet child, but the power of Saturn is the power of death and rebirth, which makes her a little too powerful, which is scary. In addition to that, when Hotaru was in coma from an accident, her father made a pact with an evil force, which resulted in her being possessed. A possessed child is always scary.

Helena (2001 Hellsing)

 - image 4

The trope of a vampire child is not a new one. In 2001 Hellsing, Helena appears for a short period to be a creepy child. She is a powerful vampire, and she acts like an adult. She does not stay on the screen long enough before she is destroyed. She does not appear in Hellsing Ultimate because she is a part of the anime-exclusive plotline.

Sunako Kirishiki (Shiki)

 - image 5

Another vampire child, Sunako is very different from Helena in that she does her best to act like a child. Perhaps, it is not all pretend, but she does seem to be the mastermind behind everything that happens in the village of Sotoba, and every vampire in the village is afraid of her. She uses childlike speech and mannerisms, and she does seem to be genuinely scared of dying, but she is the reason for a lot of killings, and she does look creepy, so she makes it on the list.

Creepy child is a common trope, especially in older anime, and while seeing one makes for a disturbing experience, sometimes we want anime to disturb us.
