Any expectations?
Summary:
- One Piece has been around for a very long time.
- With all the poorly written ending examples, fans start worrying about the finale of One Piece.
- Eiichiro Oda is said to have planned the ending already.
One Piece is one of the series that feels like it has always been around. And considering that the manga began serialization back in 1997, and the anime quickly followed suit, it might be true for some of the fans.
Not to sound existential, but all things have to end at some point, and no matter how much fans love One Piece and wish it stayed with us forever, there will come a moment when it is time to say goodbye.
While there are definitely fans who just want the series to end already before they all become grumpy old men and women incapable of following new chapters, there are still those who aren’t really looking forward to the finale. And both groups have their worries about the ending of the series.
A lot of bad examples
With so many examples of series ending terribly, the fear of something ruining One Piece is understandable. Game of Thrones showed us all how an ending could destroy the entire series, and anime are not immune to this problem either.
Take, for example, the finale of Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin) which set the internet on fire after its release, or the final arc of Naruto that so many fans found questionable. What if One Piece suffers the same fate?
One Piece has always put a lot of emphasis on worldbuilding, characters and other story aspects, and the series does a lot of things right, that’s why so many fans are absolutely in love with the series, and that’s why it’s been going on for so long.
It’s not a comedy or a harem series that you’re watching for a couple of stupid gags. It’s much more than that. That’s why a poorly written finale would be a terrible outcome.
Ending is planned?
It’s rumored that Eiichiro Oda has already planned the ending for the series, so it’s not going to be a sudden turn of events, and the author is slowly working towards the finale, but fans still have their doubts.
After all, it was said that Hajime Isayama planned the ending of Attack on Titan almost straight from the beginning, and fans still got super upset and disappointed with the finale of the series.
But there’s always hope, of course, and those who have been with the manga for a long time have great faith in their favorite mangaka. They just think that we should “let him cook” and lead us to where he’s trying to take us.
