Naivety is no vice!
Blue Exorcist (Ao no Exorcist) spoilers ahead!
Summary:
- Blue Exorcist was popular in 2011, but slowly faded into obscurity.
- Both brothers are the main characters, but the focus is more on Rin.
- Some people think Rin is a boring hero, similar to many other shonen protagonists.
Rin Okumura is the main character of Blue Exorcist. This anime was popular back in 2011, but due to a series of bad production decisions, it slowly fell into oblivion. Despite its unenviable position, Blue Exorcist has a lot to offer.
Season 3, which focuses on the Shimane Illuminati arc, is currently airing. The first episode brought attention to the main character — many people started to criticize Rin again for being a boring and stereotypical character.
Child of Satan
Despite many mistakes, first with the alternate ending of Season 1 and then with the unexpected return to the manga material in Season 2, Blue Exorcist has many good points. Primarily, there is a fascinating story at the heart of the plot.
The anime is about twins whose parents are an ordinary woman and Satan. The brothers are not alike — Rin is a restless bully and Yukio is a reliable and diligent student. They decide to become powerful exorcists and find a way to destroy their hated father.
Both brothers are generally the main characters, but the focus of the story is more on Rin. Rin has inherited the demonic power of Satan, he is less skilled and cannot control his abilities, so his training and development are given more screen time.
However, Yukio's presence in the anime makes Rin complete. Such strong contrasts in the characters show them from different sides and make the story more intense.
Not so bad
Recently, the first episode of the third season was released. It caused mixed impressions — some viewers were happy to see the return of their favorite project, while others were only convinced that Blue Exorcist has no luck with adaptations.
Fans criticized the plot holes, the fast pace of the narrative, the abundance of already known information and even the design of the characters. The anime had a noticeable change in drawing due to the new studio.
Rin also came under attack. He appeared in the episode as a very kind and naive hero. This, of course, is not very different from previous seasons, but it was very striking. Some people think Rin is a boring hero, similar to many other shonen protagonists — a typical good guy who will do anything to protect his friends and family.
However, this is not an accurate judgment. Although Rin is kind and compassionate, he suffers from doubts and fears.
The character undergoes a great transformation throughout the story and changes for the better — you can't say that Rin during the death of his stepfather is the same Rin during the battle with the Impure King. Such twists are very interesting and speak in favor of Rin as a good character.
