Maomao’s father is great, and you cannot convince fans otherwise. For one, our usually stoic Maomao smiles throughout the first day of her vacation and looks so happy to see her dad in Episode 7. But in Episode 8, we see Maomao’s dad teaching Maomao how to solve a poisoning case, and fans cannot help but wish we got more of the old man on screen.

Note that Episode 7 does not show Maomao’s dad as anyone special. He only seems to be special to Maomao. That was enough to get fans excited about the old man; they were happy that Maomao had a loving father, who also seemed to be very calm and accepting of Maomao’s forced absence. But now we know better, don’t we?

After watching Episode 8, fans are sure that the old man figured the poisoning case out while he and Maomao were still at the crime scene. After all, fans argue, the payment he received from the brothel’s owner looked a little excessive — a bribe to keep him silent. He was ready to deny it until Maomao made him take it.
Maomao is very smart, and she deserves the credit for solving the case eventually. However, her dad deserves appreciation for helping Maomao figure it all out, while he, apparently, understood everything before they were paid for their help.

Maomao’s father is kind and understanding, but he is also incredibly smart, and he taught his daughter to be just like him. Whether he is Maomao’s biological father or not, he has been a great parent to her. We hope to get more opportunities to see this old detective in action and appreciate his skills.
