The Kingdoms of Ruin: Why Are People Just So Ridiculous in This Anime?

The people of The Kingdoms of Ruin are cruel and often unhinged. They do the most ridiculous things. Why?

The Kingdoms of Ruin (Hametsu no Oukoku) spoilers ahead!

Summary

  • Since Ep. 1, people in The Kingdoms of Ruin are shown to be unsympathetic.
  • In Ep. 9, Adonis and Doroka visit a city that died out because they gave away their women in exchange for robots.
  • Aside from bikers in Ep. 7, people in the universe of The Kingdoms of Ruin are stupid, cruel and useless.
  • It is probably meant to justify Adonis in his quest for revenge.

People in The Kingdoms of Ruin

People in The Kingdoms of Ruin are written in a rather unpleasant way. They are shown to be cruel since Episode 1, when Chloe is executed, and even after that, they remain unlikable. The only exception is the bikers in Episode 7, who help Adonis and Doroka out and even give them some useful things to help on their trip.

Episode 9

Episode 9 demonstrates it better than any other episode that the people of The Kingdoms of Ruin are strange creatures. In Episode 9, a whole city is shown to have died out because the men of the city exchanged their women and daughters for robots that would cater to their needs.

To reiterate, they sold their women into slavery to Redia and received robots in exchange.

It is obviously an unhinged thing to do; no reasonable human being in the real world would exchange their wife or daughter for a robot. To find a whole city that would do so is ridiculous. Episode 9 is generally rather strange: Adonis, for some reason, decides to help the robots, which are programmed to give love and suffer when they cannot do that. Adonis had never before tried to help anyone. Episode 9 is wild.

However, it also explains why the people of The Kingdoms of Ruin are so unlikable. They are deliberately written to be just the worst so that nobody doubts Adonis’ willingness to kill every human in sight.

Adonis’ Revenge

 - image 2

Adonis seeks revenge against everyone for what was done by a small group of people. To justify it, most of the people The Kingdoms of Ruin shows are disgusting and horrible. They cheer when powerless Chloe is humiliated and killed, they sell their own daughters and wives into slavery, and they are not worthy of any sympathy.

So do not think too much about how Adonis started a massacre in the capital ten years after Chloe died. Do not think about children who are younger than Chloe’s execution who might have also suffered from Adonis’ indiscriminate killing. They are all bad, and if some of them are not, Adonis will spare them like the bikers.

The Kingdoms of Ruin can be frustrating sometimes.
