The Most Bizarre Anime of Spring 2024 Has Fans Excited

Train to the End of the World aired its second episode. An entire episode of talking which gave slight hints about the world itself.

Summary:

  • The first episode of Train to the End of the World was already weird.
  • The second one was seemingly a normal dialog-driven episode, but it gave a lot of small hints about worldbuilding.
  • Fans hope it continues to be just as good.

With just one episode, Train to the End of the World (Shuumatsu Train Doko e Iku?) easily proved itself to be one of the weirdest anime to come out recently. It revolves around a group of girls in a post-apocalyptic world taking a train to see their friends.

The bizarre part is exactly how the world ended. Apparently, humanity invented 7G (which is like 4G and 5G, but even better), which broke the laws of physics and turned people into animals.

First Episode Was Weird Enough

The first episode was already very artsy and weird, with abstract shots, references and its generally unusual premise. It made fans curious about future episodes, and the anime looked very promising from the premiere alone.

The anime is not based on any previous source material — it’s entirely original. As such, no one has any idea where the story might go, and fans are excited because original anime are often more unique, taking risks with their themes and premises.

Episode 2 Expanded on the Lore

The second episode of the anime just made things even weirder. On paper, it didn’t achieve much. Pretty much all of it was dialog, with girls sitting on a train as it was going towards the unknown. Only, that wasn’t actually the extent of it.

The episode also gave a lot of hints about the true nature of the anime and its entire world. While it’s currently really hard to deduce anything — after all, only two episodes are out — and fans can’t really speculate, they seem to want to see more. The first two episodes definitely got them hooked.

Episode 2 heavily expanded the worldbuilding of the anime, too — and fans have noticed some very odd elements. The water level rising just after the train passed the area indicated that something is really wrong, but we currently don’t know much.

Fans Love It So Far

In general, original anime tend to either be huge hits or huge flops. So far, this one is promising to be a hit — fans are definitely on board for Train to the End of the World.

The anime was pretty hyped even before it aired, as some very famous staff members are involved, and so far, it has exceeded expectations with its mystery aspect.

Can the anime still flop? It’s entirely possible. Many original anime in recent years were great at first, but ended up being disappointing due to a rushed ending. Still, fans hope this won’t be the case here.
