The New Visual for Laid-Back Camp Makes Fans Joke About Jujutsu Kaisen

Fans like it, but the new art style still bothers them.

Summary:

  • Laid-Back Camp posted a new promotional visual for Mt. Fuji Day.
  • Fans feel like that visual is a reference to Jujutsu Kaisen.
  • There are still arguments about the new art style of the series.

Laid-Back Camp (Yuru Camp△) has become pretty much a mainstream recommendation for anime that is just comfy and relaxing. The premise might seem unusual — seriously, how can you even make an anime about hiking and camping — but the series makes it work beautifully.

Combining the relaxing and meditative nature of the activity itself with beautiful landscapes, Laid-Back Camp easily became one of the most popular slice-of-life anime of all time.

Season 3 of the anime has just revealed a special visual to commemorate Mt. Fuji Day (February 23). Fans actually quite like it — but not because of reasons related to Laid-Back Camp.

In the visual, we can see Nadeshiko striking an unusual pose. It is probably supposed to represent the mountain (just how the △ in the Japanese title has a similar function), but that’s not what fans initially thought.

Comparisons to Jujutsu Kaisen were drawn immediately, with fans commenting that Nadeshiko looks like she’s about to use her Domain Expansion. To be fair, it’s understandable why fans had such a reaction: Season 2 of JJK is still fresh in their minds.

Some even wonder if making the promo visual look like that was a direct reference to the series, though most doubt the similarity was intentional.

Fans don’t like the art style change

Unfortunately, fans still can’t agree on whether the art style change for Laid-Back Camp matters or not. The change is quite noticeable, and the visuals currently revealed for the upcoming season three don’t look particularly good — especially compared to those from the earlier seasons. That said, the actual animation we’ve seen in the trailers looks decent enough.

Fans will always be unhappy about studio and art style changes, because when a sequel season is announced, they expect more of the same. In the case of Laid-Back Camp, it is particularly important, because the anime tries to make us relax, and it’s just not easy when we’re not used to the art style.

It probably isn’t that bad

Many fans feel like concerns about the art style are overblown. After all, this is the same good old Laid-Back Camp, and with how successful the franchise seems to be (before S3, it already had two TV seasons, a spin-off and a movie), we can probably expect more in the future.

The third season is coming out in April, so don’t miss it — and if you still haven’t seen the series, it’s on Crunchyroll, so you can go and catch up.

Do you think the new art style for Laid-Back Camp is worse than the old one?
