As we get a sneak peek into Episode 14 of Frieren, we feel it is worth celebrating the midpoint of the anime and looking back to appreciate what we love about it so much.
Frieren: Beyond Journey's End (Sousou no Frieren) spoilers ahead!
Summary
Episode 14 seems to be a breather episode about birthday presents.
The visuals do suggest that there will be some sort of confrontation.
Episode 14 is the midpoint for the 28-episode anime. Looking back, we find a lot of great moments, including Frieren’s memories of her previous party and her shenanigans with the new party.
Promotional Materials
Some materials allow us a sneak peek into Episode 14, with a few screenshots and a synopsis. Based on the synopsis, the episode will not have too much action, as the only conflict referenced is Stark forgetting to get Fern a birthday present. However, the screenshots suggest that there might be some trouble with a carriage. Will it be attacked? Will it be broken? We’ll see.
Midpoint
One thing promotional materials are not talking about is that Episode 14 will be the midpoint of Frieren the anime. In other words, only 14 episodes will be left after that, which makes us a little sad.
Are you happy or upset that half the Frieren anime is already out?
Frieren is a great anime, one that is popular across countries, both in Japan and outside of it. And it is not surprising because Frieren somehow manages to be realistic in its portrayal of human things like emotion and friendships while showing them from the perspective of an immortal elf. It is wholesome when it needs to be, a little silly every now and then, and, of course, epic often enough that even if the meditative and calm pace is not for you, you can get something out of this anime.
Looking Back
Looking back, we see a lot of moments that made us cry and laugh. We see the memories of the previous party Frieren holds dear — Himmel is prominent in them, and fans love him, most likely, because Frieren loves him too. We see new memories in the making, too, such as Fern becoming Frieren’s apprentice, and Stark defeating his first monster, which turned out to be an entire dragon. As Frieren makes her way toward Heavens, her new party grows, now with the addition of Sein. With great animation, fitting music and diverse little plotlines, we will miss Frieren when it is over. But we still have half of the way ahead of us, which is as much as we left behind.
