The Weakest Tamer Began a Journey to Pick Up Trash posts the 2nd PV, revealing January air date.
A new studio is producing the show; the cast is surprisingly great.
There are some concerns about production, but the reactions to the PV are mostly positive.
The Weakest Tamer Began a Journey to Pick Up Trash (Saijaku Tamer wa Gomi Hiroi no Tabi wo Hajimemashita.) was already announced for the year 2024, but the series has just released a new trailer. The trailer reveals a lot more cast and staff than was previously known, as well as features the ED song of the series. The series will start airing on January 12th, 2024.
No updates for a few months
While announced over a year ago, Weakest Tamer anime hasn’t been something an average otaku is particularly hyped for. That’s understandable: in a never ending stream of fantasy shows, this feels like yet another one that won’t be remembered after it is finished. And with the first trailer being revealed half a year ago, there have been months without any updates on the show, so many probably forgot about it already.
Staff reveals
The studio behind the anime is Massket, which, until now, had no other TV anime projects. While we already knew this info, it still raises some concerns from fans about whether a brand-new studio is going to handle the production without it falling apart midway. The trailers look decent (although not amazing), but that usually doesn’t indicate anything, as they often showcase the best animated moments of the show. The director (Naoki Horiuchi, an industry veteran who, however, had never directed an anime before) and chief director (Shigeyasu Yamauchi, known mostly for a couple of Dragon Ball Z movies) were known as well. The new PV revealed a couple of additional positions, like monster design and CG director. The ending theme will be performed by Tei (Tsurune – The Linking Shot ED).
The more important part, however, are the additional cast reveals. For a show that otherwise looks unremarkable, the cast is surprisingly top-tier, with seiyuu such as Kenta Miyake, Kousuke Toriumi, Tomokazu Sugita and Marina Inoue all providing their voices for the anime. For people who decide to watch anime based on which seiyuu have roles in it, this is definitely a consideration.
Fan reactions
With a little over a month left between the release of the second PV and the show’s airing, however, there are concerns about the production. As mentioned, the studio behind Weakest Tamer is a new one, and the staff, while experienced, seems to be taking on the roles they have not been previously taking. There is no reason to say that the anime is completely doomed, however — people will probably still watch it. The reactions to the PV were mostly positive, praising how wholesome and comfy the anime feels.
The series is starting in January.
