It was fun while it lasted.
Summary:
- The Witch and the Beast Season 1 finished airing.
- The series wasn’t overly successful, but did well.
- Season 2 hasn’t been officially announced.
Another winter-season anime has finished airing, and this time it’s The Witch and the Beast (Majo to Yajuu) that aired its last Season 1 episode on March 5, 2024. We don’t want to say goodbye, but the time has come.
The Series Is Great
Although The Witch and the Beast hasn’t worked any miracles and failed to become one of the biggest shows of last season, the series managed to impress quite a few fans, mostly thanks to its characters and worldbuilding.
Right from the first moment we met Ashaf and Guideau, their relationship seemed very curious. And the anime didn’t disappoint. The dynamic between the main duo was definitely one of the things that made it so enjoyable to watch.
The Witch and the Beast lore is also on another level. Learning how witches, mages, demons and paladins work in this universe is extremely engaging, and the pacing of the series feels just right; there weren’t random chunks of information dropped on the viewers.
The animation seems to be the thing that’s criticized the most when it’s time to talk about The Witch and the Beast, but even this aspect cannot be called terrible. Yes, it leaves much to be desired, but there weren’t any weird moments, capable of ruining the immersion and spoiling the entire experience.
The Witch and the Beast is an overall great anime adaptation, and fans want to see more of it. That’s why they are naturally curious about Season 2. Is there a chance for it?
Season 2
Episode 12 doesn’t feel like a goodbye. On the contrary, it feels like the beginning of a new story. There’s a cliffhanger, and we still haven’t even seen the vampires in the series. It seems like Yokohama Animation Lab was making Season 1 with the intention to keep going.
Unfortunately, Season 2 hasn’t been officially announced as of now, so it’s difficult to say whether it’s ever coming, but fans prefer to stay optimistic.
The Witch and the Beast didn’t do wonders, but the scores are pretty high (7.32/10 on MyAnimeList), and people definitely know of the series’ existence, so there’s great hope that the anime will continue one day.
The manga has enough content for another season, but it’s been on hiatus for some time now, so fans see how this might be an issue. However, they want to believe that this is not the last time we see Ashaf and Guideau animated, and there will be good news soon.
