Cute stories about the little joys of life.
No holiday spirit? We have a reliable recipe for those who have forgotten the little pleasures of life. The plot of the anime The Diary of Ochibi-san is largely driven by childish curiosity and the magic of everyday life.
Every little thing that might seem insignificant to many adults attracts the attention of friends and becomes an amazing event in their lives. It could be a breeze in the forest, a lost pompom, vegetables in the garden, and much more.
What Is The Diary of Ochibi-san About?
Ochibi is a funny little man in a striped hat with a pompom who lives with his grandfather in a big house with a garden and a vegetable patch. He is incredibly curious and friendly, and his days are filled with endless adventures.
This world is inhabited by talking anthropomorphic animals and people. The main character's best friends are two poodles his size.
Black Ozeni is serious and reasonable, loves to read books and learn new things. Brown Pankui is a naive, good-natured guy who likes to sleep and eat bread. Basically, the trio is a group of children who are interested in and surprised by everything around them.
The Diary of Ochibi-San Is a Measured and Relaxing Anime
Seasons play an important role in the anime. The characters enjoy each day, admiring nature and enjoying seasonal food.
There are no dramatic events or unexpected twists, although there are some unpleasant moments:for example, a cold forces Ochibi to stay in bed. However, the characters support each other and overcome these difficulties.
The narrative is calm and measured, and the episodes are short – only five minutes – but each one manages to charge with energy and make you smile. In short, this is an excellent example of iyashikei whose goal is to calm the viewer and literally heal his soul.
The Diary of Ochibi-San Was a Real Cure for Its Creator
The Diary of Ochibi-san became a kind of medicine for the creator of the original manga, Moyoco Anno. In the 1990s, she became famous for her bright shojo works.
The artist tried out different directions and even drew an autobiographical Insufficient Direction about otaku life with her husband Hideaki Anno, the famous director of Evangelion and founder of the Khara studio.
In the late 2000s, the manga artist stopped working on all projects except The Diary of Ochibi-san due to health problems. Eight years passed before Anno returned to manga magazines.
In many ways, Ochibi helped her cope with her difficult mental state, as she drew the manga the way she wanted: in color, using her favorite techniques. It was completely different from her other projects – there was no drama or acute social conflicts.
The Diary of Ochibi-San Teaches Us to Appreciate Small Joys
Perhaps it is no coincidence that The Diary of Ochibi-san is full of life. After all, it was this manga that helped Moyoco Anno remember why she loves animation so much.
And for viewers, it can bring back the feeling that there are many joys around us that we forget as we grow older. Sometimes a real miracle is cooking vegetable soup or admiring the moon in the company of best friends.
