A full-length anime from a debutant worth paying attention to.
On January 31, the anime Make a Girl was released – the debut of Yasuda Gensho, who had previously released short films on YouTube.
These short films first introduced a silver-haired character who later became the main character of a full-length anime – Make a Girl.
What Is Make a Girl About?
A world of an alternative future where robots help people in everyday life. And all this became possible thanks to the mother of Akira – a schoolboy who is eager to continue her work and create something of his own.
After the death of his mother, the boy began to decipher her developments and plans, according to which he began to design assistants with AI. However, all his creations are short-lived. More and more often it seems to him that he is not capable of more.
One day, his friend gets a girlfriend and explains that it is she who motivates him to be better. Without thinking twice, the main character creates a robot girl based on his mother's developments. No. 0 is born, already programmed to love Akira.
But instead of inspiring him to develop new models, the robot girl demands attention like any other. This does not suit Akira, but only distracts him from his work, so he decides to get rid of No. 0.
Make a Girl Is an Anime about a Robot And Its Creator
From this point on, the anime begins to mix shojo, deep drama, thriller and action. On the one hand, the movie explores the topic of love between a robot and its creator, which has been explored more than once in both animation and cinema.
For example, in the anime Chobits, the main character found a discarded humanoid robot, fixed it and began to build a relationship with it. But Akira is still an immature schoolboy and is unable to reflect on his feelings.
Make a Girl Focuses on a Love Story, But Tries to Explore Other Topics
On the other hand, the director tries to show the difference between scientists who have worked on their projects all their lives and the spoiled children of geniuses who build their careers on an existing foundation. But the conflict ends before it even starts.
Unfortunately, Yasuda Gensho decided to avoid serious topics and focus on the love story. At the same time, the director adds some catchy details.
For example, if a robot tries to hurt its creator, the program will make it hurt itself, even to the point of self-destruction.
In this context, the desired, but for an android unattainable, freedom of thought, action and judgment seems particularly acute.
