This Thing Can Kill: 10 Weirdest Anime Weapons

Creativity has no limits.

If your imagination is wild enough, anything can be used as a weapon. And wild imagination of authors is what sells the manga and the anime. Some get their ideas from folklore; others just look around and turn ordinary things into something epic and deadly.

The amount of weird or interesting weapons that manga and anime characters wield is insane, and we tried to compile a list of the most creative ones.

Scissor Blade — Kill la Kill

 - image 1

When you're fighting against fibers, you need something to cut them with, and what's better than a pair of scissors? Not only does it fit the theme of the show, but it also looks really cool. The Scissor Blade is usually half a pair of scissors, but can transform into its full form for greater range and damage. This unorthodox weapon made the fights in Kill la Kill even more chaotic and insane.

Cards and Vacuum cleaner — Hunter x Hunter

 - image 2

In terms of creative weapons, Hunter x Hunter has a lot, but these two are the most notable ones. Hisoka's cards just look cool first and are extremely effective second. He's not the first person to use them to slice throats (and not only throats), but he does it with so much style he has to be commended. But the weapon that Shizuku Murasaki possesses, however, is even more horrifying, because it deals with the unknown. Blinky, a trusty vacuum cleaner, can suck any inanimate object into the unspeakable and unexplainable void. And he also bites. He is most often used to clean up the arenas, but never, ever underestimate Blinky.

Death Note — Death Note

 - image 3

This concept proves that words can literally kill. Death Note is a powerful artifact belonging to the gods of death that allows its owner to kill a person who they saw and whose name they know by writing their name on the pages. The most creative and effective ones may even specify the cause of death, the time, and play with other customization parameters. The lazy ones will get a simple heart attack. The kills are untraceable, making the Death Note one of the most dangerous weapons on this list.

Roses — Sailor Moon

 - image 4

One thing that you can't deny about Tuxedo Mask is that he surely has style. And he has a weapon that fits it perfectly — the roses. These roses most of the time just signify his arrival to the battle, but they can be useful. For example, they can slice through material and hurt the enemies. Though Tuxedo Mask is rarely a person who finishes the battle, he is quite often the one who interrupts it and gives the girls a little breather. His roses are not as practical as some of the other weapons in the series, but they are certainly weird.

Guitars — FLCL

 - image 5

In the universe of FLCL guitars can be used in so many different scenarios, it's insane. Guitars are called Bats here, and their owners can just boldly and bluntly slice robots with them, equip them with guns, or even saws. Haruko even uses her guitar to fly, and that's not the only function her trusty Rickenbacker has.

Hairpins — Bleach

 - image 6

Ever wished to turn the time back? Ask Orihime, she has something that can help with that. The powerful artifact capable of bending time and space, destroying matter and undoing events that just transpired, looks like flower-shaped hairpins. The petals are infused with powerful spiritual energy and also provide Orihime with healing abilities and increase her defense.

Camera — Speed Grapher

 - image 7

In this mix of mystery, suspense, and crime one of the deadliest weapons is a simple camera. Her owner, Tatsumi Saiga, learned the hard way that after a certain event, his camera turned into something akin to the Death Note: whoever he photographs will die in an explosion. Sure, he needs to be around the person to kill them, which makes this weapon less stealthy compared to the Death Note, and the default killing settings are quite flashy with no way to tune them, but that's what keeps it interesting.

Umbrella — Gintama

 - image 8

What would you think if you saw a pale young girl with an umbrella trotting happily in the streets? Sure you wouldn't think that this girl could destroy buildings with one hit of her hand, right? And you surely wouldn't think that her cute umbrella could actually shoot and protect her from the bullets, right? That's exactly who Kagura is — a superstrong alien girl who always has her umbrella with an integrated machine gun by her side. Sure, she also uses it to protect herself from the sun, because her race is very sensitive to its light, but it also packs a very serious firepower.

Blood — Blood Blockade Battlefront

 - image 9

It's literally in the name. There are specially trained people called Blood Hunters who are capable of using certain supernatural techniques involving their blood to protect the peace and fight those who disturb it. In a series set in an altered version of New York that now has a passage to the other world and bears the name of Hellsalem's Lot, this skill is crucial to survival. Some techniques allow its users to shape their blood into deadly weapons or into bridges and some extra appendages. In other cases, blood has some special qualities, like freezing or transmitting electricity and shocking targets. The technique depends on the user and their training. That brings a lot of creativity into fights.
